  1. sounds like he was trying to recreate the infamous "Firefalls" of the 60s, but on the wrong side of the valley and about 40 years too late.
  2. Hardcore man. Sorry to hear you went all that way just to get shut down. Guess it was good exercise though.
  3. That's interesting that you think they're great for people with narrow feet. I say this because I have very wide feet and I tried them on a couple days ago and they felt great. I only walked around the store for about 15 minutes though, so I have no idea how they would feel after a several mile approach on snow. I have a pair of Scarpa T2s and they fit me like a charm, so I figure that maybe their mountaineering boots would fit great as well. Isn't La Sportiva suited better for people with narrower feet? Has actually hiked and climbed in the Cumbres?
  4. It's not funny, it's not strange, but fuck was it cool... I was at around 13,000+ on Rainier, Kautz route, at the point where you hit the final slope to the summit. My buddy and I pause to take a breather just as the sun is starting to rise. We look over to the west and what do we see? A freakin' lunar eclipse!! The moon was way down low in the horizon in the west, the sun was way down low in the horizon in the east, and Mt. Rainier was right in the middle of the two, perfectly in line. You know how the shadows of the volcanoes stretch way out across the lansdscape at sunrise/sundown? Well, the moon actually DISAPPEARED directly into the shadow Mt. Rainier was casting, and then slowly creeped back out. It was definitely the most spectacular natural phenomena I've ever seen, and to see it from such an insane location with all the weird ice formations and such was a trip. I usually bring my camera along on every trip, but decided it wasn't worth the weight that day. Man, am I kicking myself for that one. I guess memories are better than pics though. I'll never forget that.
  5. Sorry to go so off topic, but here's Al on the summit anyway. It's lookin' pretty nasty up there...
  6. You sure that big al attempted the Kautz? Figger 8 said he say him at camp muir. Doesn't make much sense. Was it the D.C. maybe? Anybody know if the old bastard made it?
  7. Did he end up slogging all the way up there? I wish I was there to see the spectacle. Did the Secret Service make it up?
  8. Now that's awesome.
  9. I'm thinking about buying a pair, though am interested in hearing from some current users. Anybody try these out? Love em'? Hate 'em? Are they too heavy? Warm enough? Dry enough? Thanks.
  10. It's not local, but the first pitch of One Hand Clapping at the Black Wall of Donner Summit (North Tahoe) has to be one the finest 5.9 cracks I've ever climbed. Beautiful!
  11. Huh? Whachu talkin' 'bout Allison? ALPINIST rocks!
  12. ' Ummm... I think Olympia might be in southern washington and Everett is somewhere near the canadian border.
  13. Just so you know, you can't just plug in a newer Firewire800 device into your older 400 port. They're differently shaped and won't fit. Such much for the plug n' play. So much for Monday morning nerd fest.
  14. Forgive my ignorance, but I'm from planet PC. What Fejas was referring to, it seems, was using Firewire for an internet connection. Lots of other peripherals can attach directly to your computer via a firewire cable though, like printers and scanners and such, and if you don't have the right port, you could be screwed. It seems like older (Firewire 400) devices can be plugged into the newer Firewire 800(1394) ports, with a special adapter, but I don't know if you can plug the newer (800) devices into the older (400) port that's on your computer. If your computer takes cards though, you can buy the new firewire cards for cheap and give your computer the capability to run these devices. Don't quote me on that.
  15. then i have really no clue how these search engines work. i noticed there are several different search engines on the site, with 2 on the main cc.com home page, one on other pages, one on the photo pages. anyone know the details?
  16. Allison, the search engine only shows posts that you started. I guess you used to be able to search on all posts you ever did, but it slowed the engine way down, so they changed it. You're only seeing 50 because you probably only started 50 or so. What was your first new topic?
  17. Maybe I should have read that before posting it. Did I mention the mounties? Woops! Yeah, I think it was Heinrich who was belaying me out of the crevasse there. Fucking gear sucked in those days. Fleblebleblebleb, I was like Numero 14 man. I just disappeared under a rock for a while between then and now.
  18. Woops. Me misunderstood. I think this is my first post... first post

Um, that would be Lithuania actually! Funny, I've heard other folks in the US call Canadians "a bunch of communists". They talk about how scary and weird the canadians are and how they're too freaked to ever go up there. That's alright, that just means less people there when I go. Woo hoo!
