Trip: Matterhorn Peak, Sawtooths, E. Sierra - north arete variation Date: 5/19/2012 Trip Report: Climbed Matterhorn Peak this weekend with great weather and conditions aside from some soft snow. We hiked in on dry trail and then later snow that lead to the small glacier and the couloir leading to the start of the route. We wandered a bit on the route and had a late start forcing us to descent in the dark, but overall a great climb. The sawtooth range offers a short approach, beautiful scenery, and good climbing. We saw lots of deer and wildlife, and only two other people the whole day, not bad for a weekend. Does anyone know if there are rap anchors off the summit somewhere, saw one set but was not sure if it lead off or if there were more below it? Gear Notes: 6-8 draws set of cams nuts and slings bring axe and crampons for the descent Approach Notes: 5 mile hike 5000ft gain. 12200 summit, 6 pitches of rock.

Trip: Tahoe Alpine (Nevada side) - incline lake cliffs Date: 5/12/2012 Trip Report: Took my dad out climbing we climbed a some snow chutes and a few rock steps in the Tahoe back country near my hometown. It was great to finally climb with my dad. He is 70 this year but kept up well. Nothing to technical but still warranted the use of rope and gear in some steep sections.

Trip: Donner Peak - Donner summit headwall above train tracks Date: 5/5/2012 Trip Report: Headed out to Donner the other night to see if the temps were low enough to freeze the snow and possibly encounter some ice. I was pleasantly surprised to find nice hard neve and some small sections of ice later in the evening around 12. We took a direct route up the face and weaved left near the summit. All in all an awesome climb with an awesome moon. Not the coolest climb but you got to take what you can get in Tahoe at this time of the year. My camera broke so no good pictures to show sorry. Anyone else out there do any tahoe alpine climbs? Looking for partners... Gear Notes: crampons, 1 or 2 tools, 2 pickets (36'), 4 small cams and half set of nuts, helmet. Approach Notes: from snowshed wall traverse train tracks till you find your desired line up.
