  1. Howdy Having recently been burned, I'm going to try some non-craigslist avenues... Figured I'd put a try in here, where the ethical bar is likely to be significantly higher, and where odds are actually probably not that bad that someone will have exactly what I'm looking for. Needing a car, needs to be 7-passenger, good fuel economy (19-20+ average at least- "good" for the size/type I'm looking for), good for shitty mountain road conditions (AWD or TC FWD), good condition, everything works, RELIABLE, preferably lower miles- but a proven vehicle with 100,000+ is not necessarily excluded... Price range is $2,000-$12,000+, depending entirely on what I can find- I want a good, reliable car, and I don't care nearly as much about age or model or miles as I care about it being in good and functionally perfect condition. Have a '95 that's in great condition with 75K on it? Totally in the realm. Have a '05 with a no-catastrphes 130k on it? Also totally in the realm... you get the picture. I think I'm looking at a V or XC70 with rear jump-seats, or an XC90. Not really finding anything else that I can afford that meets the capacity, traction, and fuel economy requirements, but totally open to a make/model I've missed. Email's always fastest - benjaminbeckerich@gmail dot com Thanks
  2. You guys leave skis at the saddle and walk back around for em from le olde chute?
  3. Never see TRs on this one.. Thanks for posting, and good job
  4. Must have been thine skiing partner, then.. He was sporting ski boots. How was the skiing back down?? I was headed over to the east side and was eating shit skinning up on ice to ice under shallow slab on my split.. finally took a nasty slip above the canyon and had to ride back down over skittery ice in climbing boots with a probably torn rotator cuff and fucked up jaw. Woohoo! Must have been a lot better elsewhere- I saw plenty of BCers coming back on, none commented on the hazardous conditions.. I personally didn't find acceptable conditions till I hit groomed snow halfway down palmer.
  5. How'd it go, and can we expect a TR?
  6. Was that you at the lodge? I had the Jones splitboard. I talked to one of your group, anyway
  7. The orange 'uns. Got a set in good condition collecting dust? -Ben
  8. What are you looking to get for the whole-shebang lease?
  9. I suddenly don't want to climb anymore
  10. Are you strong, fearless, unemployed, and unattached?
  11. Ice tools seem to do really well on eBay. I've sold a few sets, as I've progressed from broke-noob-guy to gainfully-employed-more-experienced-guy. I always start at $.99 with no reserve, and I've never sold a set for less than I paid for them to begin with. Here's a set that's not as new as yours that's already going for more. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Diamond-Cobra-Ice-axes-pair-/121069079125?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c30478a55
  12. Yeah, consensual sex as defined by her failing to scream out. Obviously it cant be rape if nobody heard her scream. Kill her! There was an expectation that a woman defend her purity, even if only shouting for help. Deuteronomy says that if an engaged virgin has sex with a man in the city, they are both killed. It doesn't say consensual sex, it just says "Sex" or "Laid with" (Depending on the translation). I don't see any exclusions in the verse for rapes happening in the city, do you? Sex happens? Death. There is no provision for a woman being raped in the city. In fact, the implication from Deuteronomy is that there is no rape in the city -- she would have called out, after all! Only in the countryside is there an exclusion for rape. It's a pretty hard verse to try to defend, but I'm sure you'll keep trying! The "implication" is going to be whatever you decide it is. One thing that's really clear from these many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many sprayfests you get into is that you make it up as you go.. and unless one finds himself super bored with absolutely nothing better to do, there's not much point to trying to enjoy any kind of debate like that. So relish another illusory spray victory.. 'cause you totally win. -Ben

  14. nah, the boy would have just given the girl's father a few goats or something. They would only have killed her if she were raped. The truth isn't bad enough, we have to make it worse? Raped girls were not stoned- the rapist was stoned. Unless he agreed to marry her. Wrong. Re-read your Deuteronomy (starting at 22-23, if you can't remember). If a betrothed woman was raped in the city, both were executed (she was in the city and should have cried out, after all, so it wasn't really even rape). But, if a betrothed woman was raped in the countryside, only the rapist was executed -- since nobody could have heard her cry out anyway. But, relevant to this story, if a man had sex with an unbetrothed virgin, nobody was executed -- the rapist had to pay 50 shekels to the woman's father, and marry her and give up his rights to a divorce. "If a man finds a young woman who is a virgin, who is not betrothed, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are found out, then the man who lay with her shall give to the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife because he has humbled her; he shall not be permitted to divorce her all his days." Oh, christians. Deut 22:23-24 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you. Nothing about rape. This is for consensual sex. Deut 22:25-27 But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. 26 Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders a neighbor, 27 for the man found the young woman out in the country, and though the betrothed woman screamed, there was no one to rescue her. In other words, if it happens in the countryside, the woman is always given the benefit of the doubt. You're understanding it backwards.

  16. I've actually wanted to do this recently, even headed up with the intent to, one day, but got shut down by weather. There are, indeed, lots of adventures to be had aside from just picking a route and tagging the top Thanks for posting
  17. Anybody use Birdseye with an etrex.. or I guess any receiver? Since topos are of limited use on a shitty little GPS receiver screen, seems like it might be "better," but I wonder if it isn't also of limited use.
  18. So it looks like ye ol' Dragon is a walk-off, no? Just hike down the south side till you get below the NE ridge, and follow it down and around back up to the north, and you're back at the lake? Thanks -Ben
