  1. I carried a multi tool for a while, but they're fappin heavy and I never used anything but the blade.. so I switched to a regular cadet size swiss army, and discoverd they're very easily dropped and lost, and are also heavy.. so I just stuck to my Benchmade 9050 AFO.... but you know what? It's also heavy, but worse, really expensive. So I started looking for a really cheap, simple, lightweight knife, and settled on a $20 BiMart special - Paklite Caper Super light, easy to hang on to, fixed in a nice light sheath I stick on my pack hip belt. If I drop it, I'm only out $20. I also like that I can get it out and cut with one hand.
  2. I've had both.. I don't think either are any better in low light. That's what the light function is for
  3. Howdy What have you been sticking on your young alpinists' feet? Thanks, -Ben
  4. It's cheap for a reason. What's their warranty look like? Only experience I have with their down jackets was a nice light 800 fill jacket I got the wife- the zipper broke about the second week, then a seam opened up and it started leaking. I never did take it back and see what they'd do to make it right, so I can't be too critical.
  5. What is this Pencil thy speaketh of?
  6. I was actually totally on board
  7. Lol @ "They are heavy"...yes, compared to leaving the large gear at home and looking for a smaller placement, they are heavy. Compared with carrying double #4 and double #5 camalots they are good value for the weight. I agree with your advice overall though. Best bet is to just take less gear. Chose climbs within your ability so you don't need to sew it up and can climb through to those smaller placements. Much more enjoyable that way. I don't remember what the exact weights were (5 minutes googling would drag up results), but UL Powcams weigh about the same as BD Hexentrics. Some Hexes actually weigh slightly more than their UL size counterpart. People call BS when I say that... great way to wager for free beers.
  8. I switched to all Metolius UL Powcams and TCUs, got rid of doubles except for a couple small-medium pieces, switched to 23s for racking beaners, Photons and Contact Runners for draws, went from an Adjuma to a CAMP Blitz, grabbed a 60m Serenity from Bluewater twins, switched to Titan for anchor cord.. I bought a hex set before discovering that they're not actually any weight-savings over UL Powercams- Metolius cams are freaken light. I'm gonna forsake my Reverso for a Mega Jul if I can get my hands on one. I didn't weigh my before rack, so I have no quantifiable weight savings.. But it's definitely a LOT lighter. Then I tore my rotator cuff in a splitboard accident... so's gonna be a while before all this shiny new gear gets broken in.
  9. The only place anywhere near Portland with any snow is, in fact, Mount Hood.. The Timberline Lodge parking lot is where many tens of thousands of aspirant mountain climbers have learned to self-arrest and dig snow graves and such.. just cruise on up and have at it.
  10. Did you stick them upright in the snow, or leave them behind a rock on their sides?? And what colors? I see skis stuck in the snow all the time, but I don't go inspect them- assuming they've only been there a few hours, and will be gone again in a few more.
  11. You guys leave skis at the saddle and walk back around for em from le olde chute?
  12. Never see TRs on this one.. Thanks for posting, and good job
  13. Must have been thine skiing partner, then.. He was sporting ski boots. How was the skiing back down?? I was headed over to the east side and was eating shit skinning up on ice to ice under shallow slab on my split.. finally took a nasty slip above the canyon and had to ride back down over skittery ice in climbing boots with a probably torn rotator cuff and fucked up jaw. Woohoo! Must have been a lot better elsewhere- I saw plenty of BCers coming back on, none commented on the hazardous conditions.. I personally didn't find acceptable conditions till I hit groomed snow halfway down palmer.
  14. How'd it go, and can we expect a TR?
  15. Was that you at the lodge? I had the Jones splitboard. I talked to one of your group, anyway
  16. I suddenly don't want to climb anymore
  17. Are you strong, fearless, unemployed, and unattached?
  18. Where I end and you begin
  19. Yeah, consensual sex as defined by her failing to scream out. Obviously it cant be rape if nobody heard her scream. Kill her! There was an expectation that a woman defend her purity, even if only shouting for help. Deuteronomy says that if an engaged virgin has sex with a man in the city, they are both killed. It doesn't say consensual sex, it just says "Sex" or "Laid with" (Depending on the translation). I don't see any exclusions in the verse for rapes happening in the city, do you? Sex happens? Death. There is no provision for a woman being raped in the city. In fact, the implication from Deuteronomy is that there is no rape in the city -- she would have called out, after all! Only in the countryside is there an exclusion for rape. It's a pretty hard verse to try to defend, but I'm sure you'll keep trying! The "implication" is going to be whatever you decide it is. One thing that's really clear from these many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many sprayfests you get into is that you make it up as you go.. and unless one finds himself super bored with absolutely nothing better to do, there's not much point to trying to enjoy any kind of debate like that. So relish another illusory spray victory.. 'cause you totally win. -Ben

  21. nah, the boy would have just given the girl's father a few goats or something. They would only have killed her if she were raped. The truth isn't bad enough, we have to make it worse? Raped girls were not stoned- the rapist was stoned. Unless he agreed to marry her. Wrong. Re-read your Deuteronomy (starting at 22-23, if you can't remember). If a betrothed woman was raped in the city, both were executed (she was in the city and should have cried out, after all, so it wasn't really even rape). But, if a betrothed woman was raped in the countryside, only the rapist was executed -- since nobody could have heard her cry out anyway. But, relevant to this story, if a man had sex with an unbetrothed virgin, nobody was executed -- the rapist had to pay 50 shekels to the woman's father, and marry her and give up his rights to a divorce. "If a man finds a young woman who is a virgin, who is not betrothed, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are found out, then the man who lay with her shall give to the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife because he has humbled her; he shall not be permitted to divorce her all his days." Oh, christians. Deut 22:23-24 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you. Nothing about rape. This is for consensual sex. Deut 22:25-27 But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. 26 Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders a neighbor, 27 for the man found the young woman out in the country, and though the betrothed woman screamed, there was no one to rescue her. In other words, if it happens in the countryside, the woman is always given the benefit of the doubt. You're understanding it backwards.

  23. I've actually wanted to do this recently, even headed up with the intent to, one day, but got shut down by weather. There are, indeed, lots of adventures to be had aside from just picking a route and tagging the top Thanks for posting
  24. Anybody use Birdseye with an etrex.. or I guess any receiver? Since topos are of limited use on a shitty little GPS receiver screen, seems like it might be "better," but I wonder if it isn't also of limited use.
  25. Sweet.. thanks, gentlemen.
