I'm not sure. But the better question is how fast it dries off during the rain. Of course hard stuff is harder when wet, but you can do quite a bit in a light drizzle.

Trip: Darrington, 3 oclock rock - Silent Running, Cornucopia. Date: 6/2/2010 Trip Report: So Todd and I ran up to 3 oclock rock, forgetting some essential beta (like the approach information). We ended up on Cornucopia (we discovered later). It's a fun 10- that will throw you through a loop if you expect 5.9+. We then ventered down and found Silent Running by soloing up slabs to find the first bolt. We did the first 4 pitches and got off the route at 9:30 pm. I've done a marathon and half IM. 4 hour marathon, 5 hour 25 minutes half ironman. So, I donno, I guess I'd say they do transfer. Not as perfectly as say, bike racing just because of the benefits to leg strength. Both distances are attainable for mortals with a good amount of training, inherent fitness, and a whole lot of will.

Well, not exactly. For one thing, a climb isn't a marathon. Although they are close. But definitely take it easy. But you make some valid points about preparation. "Also, why even say anything? Nobody was asking for your expert nutrition and training advice, he was just commenting that the crappy weather has prevented him from going out on his training climbs and you butt in with your wanna-be-Mr-Big-Time-Mountaineer attitude and your unsolicited advice that makes you come off like a total douche." That's funny coming from you. Why the hell are you talking to me? Did I ask you to? It can be turned around. In fact, pretty much all you do on this site is critique other people. I've never heard you say anything of value. It's funny on this site because the guys calling other people douches are usually the douchiest.

If someone is trying to climb, say, Rainier, off the couch-First thing I'd say is "good luck". Desperately trying to train a few days before a climb is futile.

tapering for a marathon If climbing can be compared to a marathon, this is a valuable article. They say that it has been proven that it takes up to three weeks to taper, where your muscles restore their glycogen. I assume they check their sources.

I suppose someone has their science cap on today. Can't blame you for that. But it is a scientifically supported fact, as far as I know. I'll do a little research and check back. I'm primarily addressing the endurance side of things. I've done quite a bit of endurance athletics and a tapper is usually a couple weeks long. Any training closer than a couple weeks, or at very least a week just wears you down rather than builds you up. Look around, you'll see the general consensus supports that. You'd be surprised how long it takes muscles to grow.

When were you doing the conditioning climbs? Generally it's accepted that anything sooner than 2 weeks before the climb doesn't strengthen you.
