  1. Bid deal. Shit falls off of there all the time.
  2. She should get Ivan to write her script then instead of the losers she has doing it now.
  3. Freedom means buying whatever you want even if you can't afford it.
  4. Some things don't change.
  5. Sounds like a great party and all but really what did it do for us besides spawn fourty years of hippy jam band fests created for the sole purpose of selling t-shirts to burnout college kids. Yippee.
  6. Speaking of overwrought figurative language, how about the new Alpinist. Some of the writing is so BAD its seriously humorous. In particular, one published fictional "story," written by a female contributor, is extremely high cheese content soft-core climbing porn. Must be difficult to find content these days.
  7. Redbull? You needs some SPARKS!
  8. Negative. Its dry getting to the base and I can gaurantee that the Cascadian is completely dry. You may want them if coming in from Ingalls side, but I would bet you can do it without them.
  9. Dean and Steph are definitly badass and have accomplished some amazing and mind boggling solos, but I agree, man. I mean all this bullshit about I solo because it makes me free and unfettered like eagles and the wildflowers in the wind is so fucking hypocritical when you're climbing with the digi in your face. I'd have more respect if they dropped the pretense and were like, "I solo this shit because I'm badass," like Riordan or Bachar.
  10. The Dougherty guide is the only comprehensive one I know of for alpine routes in the area.
  11. The best guidebook for Canada is the one having the most fun.

But it doesn't count unless they used a hip belay.

You should be arguing against about gratuitous over-bolting in of itself, not the methods for drilling bolts. Top down or ground up doesn't matter if the individual putting in the hardware knows what their doing. Why deny a route developer a tool for creating a quality route?
  15. Wasn't there like a 200 page thread a year or so ago on how poorly skinny slings stood up to friction and abrasion.
  16. Freedom ain't free.
  17. You can access Horsehoe Basin easily from the other side of Sahale (south side) - the Sahale Arm.
  18. We climbed the North Face last mid-July with the idea of skiing it and there was already large sections of bare rock. Even though in some places there was more snow this year, considering the wedder this year I'd guess it's probably pretty dried up.
  19. Right. I was thinking of the Book of Mormon. There's aliens and shit in that one.
  20. Nice. That route's on my list. Thanks.
  21. There's a lot of fixed gear on lib crack, espescially on the lith lip pitch. I also seem to remember a short bolt ladder on one of the aid pitches. 8 hours is a very good time on Lib Crack - nice job Joanne!
  22. I'm not really into science fiction.

Please provide an example of either Raindawg or Pope promoting their generation as better than any other. I don't think it exists. What we're promoting is a restrained, ground-up approach to bolting that would provide rock climbing enjoyment for many generations, instead of the grid-bolted mess that we currently have. BTW, I started climbing just as rap bolting/sport climbing were being introduced in the U.S. I didn't have any traditions to protect. As a young man, I analyzed the arguments and made a decision. Also, climbers who started the same time as I (or even before) are the ones who adopted and promoted sport climbing and they are largely responsible for the mess we have today. You seem to forget that sport climbing has been here for several decades. I would suggest that many young climbers have no idea that other options exist. Granted there are a lot of shit show grid bolted routes that were put up on rap which should be aborted, but I've been on routes put up ground up style which weren't much better. Shouldn't the bench mark be the quality of route, such as the necessity of the bolt for pro, rather than how it was put up?
  24. Obama presents Stephen Hawking with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Stephen Hawking is the internationally recognized theoretical physicist who has spent his career making complex scientific concepts accessible to the layman, including penning the best-selling book "A Brief History of Time" and its updated version, "A Briefer History of Time."
  25. Lame.
