  1. To Beacon today. Wha Hooo. Solid rock!!!!
  2. Walk off. It is a bit of a scramble up to the right through the notch. The first time I roped up for it. It is a bit airy. Then walk off toward The Monkeyface and the trail.
  3. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I think it was more luck than skill getting to the top. Very loose and big chunks of rock ready to take you out. I was careful but I think I may have really hung it out there on that one.
  4. It didn't seem to have much wild life even low in the cave. We saw rat turds but no rats. Thank God. Not like in the cave on The Monkey Face at Smith. Rats..... I a woke with Rats crawling on me. I was screaming Rats Rats Rats from inside my zipped up bivy sack. Yuk. Here is a link to the summit video: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=2285424850055
  5. Short TR: We made it to the top of St. Peter's Dome on Oct. 24th 2011. I ended up not going far enough left to find the tree and the 5.8 chimney on the 56 foot rock band. I saw a bent pin and went straight up there. Jeff Thomas thinks it is a new line on the 56 foot band of rock ( the pitch in total is 100ft. to the tree). I am going to call it Plaidman's Fally. Because I was off route and because I had a 20 foot head first fall on the pitch. A bird beak Cassin Iron Hawk piton held the fall. My line is not suggested. This is a climb in my 100 Days, 100 Miles, 100 Climbs in The Columbia River Gorge. I picked the hardest climb to do first and it was all that. See more at my blog: http://blog.oregonlive.com/climbing/index.html
  6. Done!! Got to the top of the Dome. See more at my blog.
  7. It's above the 2 pins in the 5.10 crack. There is a ledge above the pins and I built the belay there instead of below the pins. From the ledge step left into the 5.7 crack.
  8. I think this is the 5.7 hand crack that LostCAMkenny has been cleaning. This route has some of the best cracks.
  9. I gotta get back on that route. Thanks Steve for the awesome pics.
  10. That is one heck of a climb. Got heat stroke that day. Maybe it was from running out that last lead of 200 ft plus. I want to do it again when it cools down a bit.
  11. That's wild. Wish I could go.
  12. Another enjoyable day of climbing. Sure had a blast climbing with ya Ivan. We got Crusin Warriors done and I even got to climb the 5th pitch. Sooooo Awesome. That last move is one of the coolest laybacks ever. That is if you do it left. I saw that it could be done right if I was willing to stem way out there. Soloed from the notch and ran down to the bottom for some hang out time with the crew. LOVE BEACON!!!! There were some folks from Tacoma traveling through. I suggested that they do Rhythm Method. They said that it was perfect for what they had in mind. Beacon Rock is definitely a jewel. So many great days out there. One of the highlights was my wedding day at the summit. I was reminded of it today. My wife didn't realize she wasn't only marrying me, but she was marrying the rock too!
  13. I couldn't have said it better. Just saying...... What were we talking about? Oh yeah. Now I remember.
  14. The construction does not effect the parking in that area at all. For Pete's Sake is an awesome 5.8 and to the left of it is The Guillotine. It goes at 5.10. Even is a 5.7 trad route to warm up on. It is further left by a big tree. The place is dusty. So bring a ground cloth or use your rope bag to keep your rope out of the dirt. Pete's Pile Nearby is Bulo Point and Area 51. Bulo Point Area 51 Jet Stream is the best route at Bulo Point. It is bolted and a real wild ride. Jet Stream

    Seriously?

HOLY CRAP!!! I wonder how many times he seriously injured himself learning how to do that. The learning curve must be brutal.
  16. It was a nice relaxing day. Jim and I got on the corner and hung out on the ledges. There was shade to be found and we had an awesome afternoon. I love climbing at Beacon with good friends. Topped out and walked down the trail in the early evening. What a treat.
  17. Going out today. I'll be there late I think. It's going to be hot at Beacon for sure. I am going to try to find some shade.
  18. I guess I won't be going to Leavenworth. Hwy 2 Closed
  19. I have a hankering for some granite. So how about Index and Leavenworth? I could roll by on my way from Portland and we could see what we could get done. Can you climb all weekend and maybe Monday? I am dropping off my wife at the airport in Portland and then I am free. I can be in Seattle by 9 am and we can be at Index by 11.
