These are weird: 1 ms after detonation photos The Ivy Mike fireball was about 5 km in diameter. The hole it left behind is 6200' wide. It was the first test of a hydrogen bomb. "Well THAT worked"
-
Eniwetok has 4 holes. 2 are adjoined. One's on land and caped with concrete. Ivy Mike's diameter is 20x the smaller ones, so you might have to zoom a bit. Stationed on Eniwetok during the tests. Yeah, that really must have sucked. TO DO: Snorkel Displace natives Fish Vaporize an island Surf BBQ
-
Bikini Atoll also has a couple of holes in it.
-
Google Earth "Eniwetok" and see how many bomb craters you can find. 10 megatons makes a lot bigger hole than 40 kilotons.

No end in sight at Gitmo Dubya is starting to eclipse Nixon as America's Most Giving Gift That Keeps On. Once we're out of Asscrackistan the 'legality' of Gitmo is going to get pretty damn threadbare. The morality of it was never in question. Thank you House Republicans for blocking any and all attempts to clean up this steaming pile of human rights violations. They never met a case of human suffering they didn't like.

An abrasion proof plastic like polypropylene (whitewater kayaks) or acetal (fastex) would work. Tool organizer trays for the back of a car or blown out pickup truck liner - that kind of thing, would probably get you closer to what the mfgr's actually use for the real thing.

Still, even I can't predict the future like a Christian. Trading in your intellect for such a super power still doesn't seem worth it.

Well, I recall positing that it didn't sound like Al Qaeda, nothing more, and the bombers' motives remain unknown to the public at this point, so there's that. Doesn't seem to be much of an Al Qaeda connection, although FOX says they 'may have been inspired' by their website, 'Inspire'. Not sure how the Christian thing crept in there. It probably wouldn't be unheard of for me to take a potshot our favorite home grown cult, but it's usually for something they've actually done. Perhaps the Kaka can produce the offending prediction from his personal database, or just PM FW for same. So far, it would seem that my record for being right still stands at 108% of the time.

His rights are our rights. Probably worth giving a shit about, IMO.

Spray is word sculpture. Or word accident, as the term is applied to babies, old folks, and dogs, depending on the OP.

The pubie. I hate this car, and it hates me back, but hate can be channeled to perform useful work: -
Well, I reckon we'll see who was up to bat in Boston eventually. Until then we can continue bending the coat hanger over each other.
-
What do you have against turnips? It'll take time, but eventually, somebody will likely slip up and brag to the wrong party. People are terrible at keeping secrets.

This was an example of knee jerk law enforcement, not effective law enforcement. Such shotgunning is a classic waste of limited investigative resources - which makes the case move slower, not faster. National origin is just another form of racial profiling. If law enforcement had a credible tip to look out for a Saudi national, they might question some. There was no such tip, and tearing this persons apartment apart and terrorizing his roommate for 5 hours went a little beyond that. Investigators have plenty of evidence to wade through right now. Misguided crap like this only delays the process. It may be who we are, but its not who we should be. The details of the incident so far indicates a small group or loan wolf, and probably a domestic one, according to law enforcement. It's early, of course, but I'm going to take their lead on that rather than recycle the trainwreck that was our post 911 response.

I don't pray, but when I do, it's just a 'thanks', not a 'gimme'. Not really sure what your '8 year old yuppy' point is, Pink, but then, you're probably not either. You don't seem to get much these days. Bombing targets are sometimes deliberately chosen to make a statement. They can have meaning. Perhaps Boston was a carefully chosen demographic, perhaps the perps just wanted a big crowd, any crowd. I do hope it was an American - I really don't want to watch us invade another shithole for another 10 years, and a yank would be easier to catch. Regarding the perps race - well, that was telling, but not anything we didn't know already.

bombs in Boston on tax day targeting yuppies. Hmmm. Must be Al Qaeda.

it's in one finger joint (R and L) - so no imbalances (no muscles in there) possible, I don't think.

Heavy but consistently skiable. T shirt sun breaks late afternoon between squalls. Awesome clouds. Colleen kvetched until the last few hundred feet, when she started getting the hang of the conditions. She is, after all, taking the short course. -
+ goggles n gloves. They're at the Steven's Pass lost and found.

A statement made by one detainee during a rare, unmonitored phone conversation with his attorney: Gitmo is killing me Our resident Freedom Fiterz might think about sticking to dead kids and Who Dat? videos. History is hard.

Holy Indefinite Detention, Batman!!!! That's one for the away team.
