  1. I've done almost all of my climbing (including winter) in a beat-up pair of old ex officio hiking pants I bought for $7 on sierratradingpost. If it's cold (i.e. winter) I wear a silk base-layer and some pataguci capilene underneath. I've always been plenty warm. In the summer, I wear nothing underneath and I'm cool. They're fairly water-resistent and stretchy. I like the marmot precip, but I can't remember the last time I wore them, or any hard-shell. Maybe 1 year ago, in the rain in boston basin? I barely even bring them with me anymore.

  3. I've had a few weird moves mantelling up onto a ledge and getting the rack stuck in a crack as soon as I commit to the mantel and being forced to do this weird neck slouch to get the rack unstuck while trying ignore the extremely uncomfortable position I've finally found myself in, and trying not to wonder what would happen if I fell with the rack wrapped around my neck and stuck in a crack below me
  4. you actually climb? WTF???? Now that would be weird to see you on a route!!!!!!! Hey, I'd clip a slow-moving dwarf...oops, sorry; I think you resemble that remark. that's gotta be the worst rejoinder ever.

maybe they were knocked down by all the roped travel
  8. So, I'm planning on taking a girl I know hiking this weekend and whipped out the dusty old alpine lakes guide book. Flipping through it, I happened to pass a description for the "assgard pass hike." Some gems from the description: Hiking Time: Allow 3 to 4 days (!) ...which may require an ice axe, sometimes rope and crampons... ...if determed to go this very steep, dangerous way... ...the ascent is the next thing to vertical... ...watch for cairns placed by the forest service... (the forest service? really?) wow, I've come down aasgard pass lots of times, I never realized it was so hard-core

  23. what kind of gear do you think it'll take?
  24. So, climbing naked must be easier, since "climbers of all abilitites can take part." If they were clothed, that would no longer be true? Once they put pants on, they suddenly require shoes and harness?
