    Where are they now??

You and TTK were finally successful in driving him away. Fairweather still lurks here. I think he recently posted in the Austin Post thread.
  12. Some pics from a family backpacking trip this past summer to Berg Lake, all the way to the snout of the glacier. 4 days. 40km. Not bad for a 5 year old. Been meaning to write a trip report. For now, I will just say a good time was had by all.

    Justice at last

Some quotes from the article, just for TTK: “I think the film helped remind everyone that Rush has been an important band in their lives,” Dunn said. “I think also, the film showed it’s not just the nerdy, pimply, ‘Dungeons and Dragons’-playing male audiences that we long assumed was the entirety of the Rush fan base. “Young people, old people and increasingly women are coming to Rush shows and I think realizing there’s more to Rush than just 13-minute prog epics. There’s some really good lyrics in there, there’s some great melodies and there’s some really catchy material as well.”

  17. agree. having a mental back-up plan for white-out or if you lose your map and compass (or gps doesn't work) is essential - as is knowing the basic topography of the area (where drainages lead, where the nearest roads are, major cliffs, etc). I think the "wait and hunker down" philospahy of being lost in the woods only works if you can survive the wait, and continuing on will just make you more lost. I think many hood fatalities could have been avoided if the person, or party just simply went downhill. At least being lost in the forest is better than being lost on a glacier or snowslope. Finally, if you have a rope, and know how to set-up improptu rappells, you can get off the top -regardless if it's the quickest way to you car. I can think of a number of local rescues in the North Shore Mountains (Vancouver) that ended with finding a body at the base of a cliff (and these mtns are only 4,000ft, but rugged). Going down is not the best option if you are unfamiliar with the terrain. This guy did the right thing given the situation he was in. But please carry on with the debate regarding if he should have gotten himself into the situation in the first place.
  18. Cool TR, Ivan. I was caving long before I was rock climbing and mountaineering...it was a gateway sport for me. First in the Canadian Rockies and then Vancouver Island. You are right about fall being the perfect time for a cave adventure.
  19. Oh ok. Its working then.

    Rush!

As far as I know, Eurasian Eyes is because of his spouse, Pulse is because he lost feeling in his hands on the FA, and Driven was because it required so much effort to bump another letter grade. Rush to my knowledge had nothing to do with those three, but there may be others. Pulse is actually the Pink Floyd Division Bell live tour and the direct start to Division Bell. Losing feeling in the hands was probably secondary. As for the Rush route names what do Fly By Night, A Show of Hands, Permanent Waves and Caress of Steel (to name four JS routes) all have in common? His wife?

    Rush!

I like the cheezy lyrics: RUSH - Natural Science When the ebbing tide retreats Along the rocky shoreline, It leaves a trail of tidal pools In a short-lived galaxy. Each microcosmic planet A complete society. A simple kind mirror To reflect upon our own. All the busy little creatures Chasing out their destinies. Living in the pools, They soon forget about the sea... Wheels within wheels in a spiral array, A pattern so grand and complex, Time after time we lose sight of the way, Our causes can't see their effects. A quantum leap forward In time and in space, The universe learned to expand. Myths and the magic, Triumphant and tragic, A mechanized world out of hand. Computerized clinic For superior cynics Who dance to a synthetic band. In their own image, Their world is fashion. No wonder they don't understand. Science, like nature Must also be tamed With a view toward it's preservation. Given the same State of integrity, It will surely serve us well. Art as expression, Not as market campaigns Will still capture our imaginations. Given the same State of integrity, It will surely help us along. The most endangered species, The honest man, Will still survive annihilation. Forming a world State of integrity, Sensitive, open and strong. Wave after wave will flow with the tide, and bury the world as it does. Tide after tide will flow and recede, leaving life to go on as it was...
