    Men

This thread is bullshit. Sure there are alot of men out there who are rotten shits, but the same can be said for women. Maybe you just don't know how to pick 'em. I mean, after a few car crashes, you need to ask yourself, maybe its the way *you* drive. Stop blaming the men for your bad choices - just dump their asses and move on sooner rather than later. There are lots of *good* men out there, no need to suffer with an asshole...go get yourself one of the good ones.
  2. Surprised noone has mentioned Sunblessed (4 p. 5.10a/b) on the back side of the Chief. Also, for single pitch, the Split Beaver area in the Smoke Bluffs has three stellar lines 5.9-5.10b. Oh, and
  3. Birds of Prey is great. Combine with Jungle Warfare for a full day.
  4. Forecast is 100% chance of tourist hordes. Get there early if you are climbing Diedre.

    Gear for Muir?

Johnh, you probably won't need crampons for going to Muir, but I would highly recommend having a polypro base layer and a pair of nylon shorts to go over top ("courtesy" shorts).
  8. I climbed Birds of Prey yesterday. It was dry. And sweet!
  9. Sorry that I never got around to following this up...my wife had a baby May 3 (three weeks early) so I have been kinda busy (and sleep deprived) since then. The good news is that I am on parental leave until September ...anyone want to go climbing mid-week?
  10. Anybody climb "Rock On" in the last week?
  11. Anybody been on the classic seepers lately? Just wondering what's drying out...Rock On, Snake etc.
  12. Wow. Dru has a date.
  13. That was a good one
  14. Sherri, I agree with the advice not to put too much gear in the beginning of a climb. This is assuming there are no specific moves you need to protect and the climbing is comfortable. My reasons have all already been mentioned in this thread and I will add one more: Unless you are carrying a massive rack, you may actually need that gear higher up. Sucks to have to run out the crux because you need one of the 5 pieces you placed in the first 20 ft. I find climbing is more fun if I travel light, which means being smart about what/how much I place down low and what I save for higher up. My point is to remember to size-up the pitch before you start to get an idea of what sizes you will need and where. This is just one more thing to think about as you lead up. But don't worry, start practising this stuff and it will all come automatic before you know it.
  15. what does disingenuous mean? I would like to go to Nepal and would like a gear company to send me money to do so. I will build a school or climb a big mountain when i am there.

  18. Try a heel lifter...small insert that lifts up the heel. Snug fit, no heel lifting, no blister. Or you could just try tightening your boots tight enough so your heel doesn't lift. Your boots should be tied almost so tight that they hurt - once you start walking, they'll loosen up a bit and be perfect.

  20. Why are aluminum strap-ons so expensive? Seems to me, something made out of recycled pop cans should be cheaper.
  21. What the heck is up with the constant line-up on St. Vitus Dance? Its getting as bad as Diedre. When I finally got on it, I ended up dissappointed, not cuz its a bad climb, but probably cuz it is a bit over-hyped.
  22. "Steel cut" oats is just whole grain oats (or "oat groats"), but chopped into bitty pieces by a sharp steel blade. Has all the health benefits of eating the whole grain, but cooks way faster. I buy oat groats. I cook them by putting it in a thermos with an appropriate amount of hot water and salt before I go to bed. In the morning, they are cooked soft. 30 sec in the microwave returns them to piping hot. I eat them with cinammon, brown sugar and soy milk. Mmmmm. I think the flax oil and maple syrop are excellent ideas, tomorrow I will try those (and drop the brown sugar). I have had this breakfast in the mountains, just add a bit of hot water in the morning instead of microwaving to warm it up. makes it a bit liquidy, but I usually can use the hydration anyway. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
