  1. Actually, you can use any Amateur frequency if it is an emergency without a license. I have been able to hit several repeaters from deep in the mountains far away from cell phone service on many occasions. So that might be a viable option. But then again, it's another heavy brick in your pack that you will most likely never use.
  2. Well, You might check the weather, storms are supposed to blow in tonite, and get really shitty sunday. But if you like hiking in a whiteout, then go for it. Just stay away from the summit cornice, because it's a long fall into the crater.
  3. Wow. Always have looked at these lines and thought "when will it get a FA".... Well here is my answer. You guys ... Yeah.
  4. That's what I am going to say to the naysayers that complain when I send that "helicopter toilet" into the Bergschrund... Hmmm... I always though that fertilizer was just really poop, look what i learned today.
  5. Is there something wrong with your camera or are these boots really bright pink like that? That's crazy, because I have the same boots and they are dark red...
  6. Why bother?
  7. That truck has been there since the beginning of the season. If you skinned up the Cloud Cap Road, just past the gate, that's where they park the Crag Rats snow machine. That old truck usually stays in the parking lot during the entire snow season, since that is the truck that hauls the sno cat up there.
  8. That was yesterday, today, that same line was hell.
  9. I wish I had some really good eating shit pictures of me coming down loowit this afternoon. They look like that picture at first, but the pictures afterwards look like pain....
  10. I went up the mountain today, and well. Great conditions if you do not ski/snowboard. Styrofoam/ice all the way from the first snow encountered on the trail all the way to the summit. Great Crampon purchase. Shitty edging, craptastic skiing, and really, skip that. Spring weather, freeze thaw shitty mid winter snow.
  11. You're right. It's not required but I guess I always like to err on the side of caution. Anytime I travel above tree line in winter and spring I carry my Crampons and an Axe. I don't always use them, but it's nice to know that if I need them, I have them.
  12. This is not true. I have climbed St. Helens quite a few times, and unless it's summer time and it's a pile of ash, (In other words, if there is snow) I bring my axe and crampons. Used the crampons many times on ascent and decent. (unless I am skiing.)
  13. In Patrick Point State park (about 10 miles north) there is a small crag that has some bolts and a trail to the top.
  14. Yes. They tend to be the less climbed routes on that mountain for a reason.
  15. It's truly sad that there was not a better outcome to this horrible event.
  16. I wish I could un-see that one...
  17. Me thinks that this person is trying to get their money back from gear they bought and will never use. For example: You start dating this guy and he want you to come climbing with him. You buy all the basic crap, and then it turns out the guy is a jerk, small penis, smells, whatever and you break up. Here you have $150 worth of stuff you will never use, so you put it up on craigslist hoping to get your moeney back. (this is just a sexist view, considering that the harness is for a woman) So, while I would not pay that much for "used" new stuff with tags, maybe someone will. So, not really so much "what the hell"... Or maybe that's your ex girlfriend that you bought that stuff for, and are shocked that she is selling it on CL...
  18. Isn't that what was your motivator to get into skiing in the first place? You still can't snowboard. Probably scared of it. Kind of like when all the older kids made fun of you when you showed up with your crappy sure-grip skateboard at Burnside, and they kicked your ass.
  19. Yeah, that buttered toast method is pretty lame, but then again, that's why I stay off the Green and Blue runs as a rule.
  20. If it's anything like the time the Sledder fell in the crater, he fell over 1100', so that would have be one reallllly long rope. That time they plucked him out with a helicopter. I suspect that is exactly what they where trying to do today, but winds and weather made it unsafe. It's going to be a long night, even if the guy is not hurt. Who knows what kind of clothes he had with him, or if even a pack made it with him, etc.
  21. Well, once you graduate from survival skiing the blue runs, You might notice less and less of that stuff on the Black and Dbl Black, ya know. Just sayin'...
  22. You guys are still crying about this inane shit?!
  23. Well, I never have that problem.
  24. I dunno, Don't own any slowshoes. But I do have a SPLITBOARD, Brah!!! SICK, huh?
