Most people climb the south side in late winter, early spring. If you wait till early summer/late spring it's a complete clusterfuck with hoardes of climbers going up, and skiers/snowboarders kicking snice on them from above. Here is a SLOW day climbing in the late spring. (Not my picture, but makes the point.)

So, as I am finally healing up from a ripped achilles tendon in my right leg, I took a little hike on Mount Hood. Shit I am out of shape from this injury. While looking up at the Wy'east, I started wondering. Has the Black spider on the east side ever been climbed? I know some people have tried, but has there ever been an actual ascent of this portion of the mountain? It looks like one of the most suicidal routes on the mountain. No, I an not considering it my self, just wondering if it has been done. (I know some freaks got lost and rapped it a few years ago, but that's all I have ever heard)

Plumbers are dying on the job? Well, we do bleed. My blood is involved in that urinal you piss in... (that means I cut my self on the that damn thing when I installed it...) When was the last time your blood was involved in YOUR job? On the "Dying" note: a few years ago, I was on a crew that was building a "Pearl" district condo. One of the Plumbers was in a shaft, tying in some waste lines, when he lost his grip. His tie in point failed and he fell 100' down the shaft, and died in the hospital a few days later. So, yeah, some of us die making sure you can shit in a toilet.

There is a pair of those little ski's hanging on the wall as you go into the "Bargain Basement" at Next Adventure in Portland. While they do not look like they are "for sale", you never know.

Why is it when any one mentions tents, this guy from Jersey chimes in with his "$20 wal-mart tent"? Isn't this the same tent that all the people who reviewed it from the website you posted said that it was a shitty tent? Too short for tall people, etc.etc. For the OP, you're hosed. Tents are not made for tall people. From what I hear there is some 7' tall sasquatch that posts around here, maybe he can give you some tent advise. Shit, I am only 5'11" and I have trouble in some tents.

As stated above, that combination works really well. Also, make sure that the sun screen you use is sweat proof, and remember to re-apply that goo everywhere on your face. This includes places you would never expect to get sun burnt. (Like INSIDE your nostrils! The bottom of you nose, and under your chin.) I have first hand experience in getting burns in these unexpected places.
