not true, read on... I am not going to pin you up as a fool and shoot you down to make me feel good, but you don't have the correct conception of where that energy is actually stored & released from. As far as combustion goes, the energy you are "storing" and "releasing" is locked in the bonds between H-H in the case of hydrogen, O-O in oxygen, and H-O-H in water. The energy is not stored in the atoms themselves. Here's the equation for hydrogen combustion: (2x) H-H + O-O ---> (2x) H-O-H the atoms themselves do not store or release energy, and there are the same number of atoms before and after combustion. What is different is the configuration of which atoms are bonded to which other atoms. Bonds require a certain amount of energy to form, and they release a certain amount of energy when they're broken. Every bond corresponds with a different amount of energy. The amount of energy released when the molecules on the left are broken is greater than the amount of energy you lose by putting the molecules on the right together, therefore you get energy out of combusting hydrogen & oxygen. Unfortunately for us, going backwards requires putting the same amount of energy back in. That was a little simplified, but hits the heart of the issue.

dude, she's ahead in the polls (although that doesn't really mean much) and she's not the only dem with a plan, so why are you so pumped?

Rainier's permit jumps to $500, lesser volcanoes are $350, and any time you set foot on NF/wilderness ground is $150. Live the vision!

That won't happen. There will just be a "climbing tax" imposed on those who choose to participate, so that the increased risk is offset by the increased revenue from said risk group. Kinda like "sin" taxes.

Dem's want everyone to be forced to live by their moral beliefs that we should take care of the less fortunate by forcing everyone to pay for universal health care. And this is different from Rep's trying to force everyone to live by their moral beliefs that marriage is between a man and a woman. That's right, folks, Dem's are the ones who tolerate diversity and fight for freedom and make sure everyone has the right to choose their own path in life.

Mike Tyson with a full stomach but confused look, thinking "why can't anybody hear me anymore?"

Doug, didn't you actually do a study on this eventuality? Kinda makes you wonder what really happened to all those people getting "lost" in the mines. They're actually down there partying with a 10:1 ratio.

I don't know if I'd go that far, stuff like that happened all the time years and years ago and there was no solution. We're (slowly) progressing as a nation and quality of life is better than it was 10, 50, 100 years ago. Just because medicine has the knowledge & power to fix a problem doesn't mean it's possible to fix everyone's problems. At some point, there will be people with treatable problems that just won't be treated because the cost/benefit is too high. It's all about drawing a line and somebody's going to get "screwed." Life isn't fair.
-
i'm just playing devil's advocate here, i'm actually a weird conservative who does think some sort of national solution may be the best way for health care. whether it affects me or people i care about is really irrelavent, since i don't believe i'm any more important than the next person and it is clearly affecting people that others care about. as it so happens, it has affected people i care about.

no, just the pursuit, no promises

Fact: Lamborghini Ltd. is not able to provide Lamborghinis at affordable rates to a significant portion of the US. OK, a little ridiculous, but what are we honestly entitled to? Is health care a right? Maybe we should look into a constitutional amendment to settle this issue once and for all.

not being argumentative here, but is this problem really eliminated by having the government in charge?

ooh, the possibilities for pix

that's SO terrible and also the funniest thing I've seen in a long time!!!

I think the idea is more that voting Republicans often = fiscal conservatives, but unfortunately Republican politicians rarely fit the equation. "politician" and "fiscal conservative" are a tough combination to get right. everyone wants to spend someone else's money to benefit their "constituents" and therefore themselves.

i'd be willing to bet at least 90% of welfare recipients vote democrat. define "welfare" Alaska = second highest per capita federal spending = solidly red state It's the Louisiana of the Republican party. Underdeveloped and ridiculously corrupt. by welfare, I meant welfare. apparently, you did not? per-capita federal spending is a pretty silly way to define "welfare-living." more of a semi-accurate measure of population density, maybe.
