  1. there is an old goat who frequents the descent from Outer Space in Lwrth. He is pretty consistent and lets you get close. (especially if you pee on a rock nearby)
  2. I will have to think twice before trundling from now on... Sorry to hear it.
  3. I dunno about him. he always wears the same hat and just gives me a creepy vibe. Maybe it's nothing but he seems a little off.
  4. I recently got the sportiva Glacier RSS and am very pleased with these hybrid-crampon compatible boots. I bought and returned several packs and found the REI 40L was the most comfortable with a moderately heavy load. it isnt the lightest pack or the most breatheable back, but it has gear loops, straps for tools and I just generally found it to fit well. I had the deuter 40L for a week and liked it but the weird hip pads lined up with my kidneys rather than my hips; that pack got everything right except the torso length(they only offer it in one size) if you try it, load it up with what would be your max load and wear it for a few hrs. I personally was very disappointed with the new osprey packs. They did away with the lumbar pad completely on the new packs, opting instead to just extend the mesh back all the way down. I dont think they will carry a moderate to heavy load very well at all. Can anyone prove me wrong on this conjecture?
  5. This is another classic CC thread.

    FS: Cowbells

does that exclude sheep like me?
  7. I watched a pair climbing the spire waaaaay up above "blackened" at smith today and was curious about that route as I have never seen/ heard of anyone doing that route before. For a better location reference, they were on the spire right of the spire above phoenix wall. Cheers to whoever was doing it, that looked VERY adventurous!
  8. Might see you up there. I'll post conditions promptly if we go, as we might do it friday.
  9. After a few mintes of thinking I may have shown up at the wrong bar, I spotted Skeletor and we had a few pints of wildfire. Pretty good stuff. After about a half hour of talking about mountains and jobs I finally put it together that he was the guy reporting about his climb on Denali that I had been reading about in the Bulletin. Pretty badass. I think next week same place same time would work well. Maybe even make it a regular dealeo. We'll see...
  10. see you there. my fone is 541 seven40 9493

  12. check PMs
  13. my fiancee gave up climbing for 4 years after I tried teaching her rapping at columns, so you arent alone in that. And yea, I agree that that adrenaline shot can certainly be confused as fear. rmncwrtr: try to focus on your "8 foot bubble" while climbing. nothing else aside from the rock exists outside of that bubble while you are climbing.
  14. I suspect they have been sharing their secret
  15. sorry, I showed up late and missed everyone I guess. "THIS WAS ONLY A TEST!" the next one is for real. hows about Wildfire tomorrow night? (loc. above) 7:00p I will wear something climberish. Mebbe my OSU Mountain Club shirt if it is clean.
  16. (Dont mean to rag on you) but I am always surprised to hear how many climbers are afraid of heights. I know several who keep coming back to it after swearing off climbing in the middle of each previous outing. Funny phenomenon.
  17. The only spices needed are pepper, chili pepper, powdered garlic, and salt. They improve anything.
  18. ok, I am restarting the attempt at a pub club. I noticed Cascade Lakes has a locals night on Wed evenings. 2.75 pints. Anyone in for this wendesday? If not, when?
  19. Anyone read the rock & ice this/last month where gear guy addresses the question "where have all the climbing hippies gone?" One of the funniest articles I have read in that magazine.
  20. I was up there sunday and it looked like some stubborn SOB got about 5 turns in below the ramp recently. I feel sory for him/her lugging skis all the way up there.
  21. Well, the lady is back from a month abroad for a week (and then to Peru for the rest of the summer) so dont count on seeing me at any bars until next Saturday. Perhaps we can work this out for next Sat.? Gaper, I might be able to be there at 7 on thurs but I will probably have to leave early.
  22. one of these for sure. Nice work Frieh
  23. I gotta say, it amazes me that folks dont epic more with this type of ignorance(might be the wrong word). It is those strong gym rats who have just enough power and knowledge to really get themselves up shit creek w/o a paddle. If the conversations above are gibberish to you, read the climbing chapters of FREEDOM OF THE HILLS and learn how to get yourself out of trouble.
  24. ok, I want to meet the yokels in Bend and try out some new bars. I will claim no responsibility for the bar of choice (good or bad) because I dont hardly know which ones to avoid but lets git to discussing a time and place. Thoughts? I am free tomorrow evening and saturday too probably.
  25. cant wait to see the results (its probably going to be a little disturbing what folks were climbing on too)
