I think you could ski in. I'm pretty sure it's still there, but when I was a kid I was part of the Mazamas group that built the Yellow Jacket Trail (aptly named). It started about 500 feet up the Timberline road (on the right, there should be a sign) off Hwy 26 and went all the way to Whiteriver Canyon. It was made for XC skiers, but you could certainly skin it. That would drop you about 3/4 mile above the highway where it washed out. If you get nabbed you could always plead innocent and they give you a free ride back to your car.

Here are some more pictures from the mess on Hwy 35. Looks dicey.

with the new congress, at least the parks might get the funding they need to make repairs/maintenance now Pelosi said today that government corruption, global warming, the Iraq war, all terrorism, the Darfur crisis, and world hunger all ended yesterday. So that's good news! -
Have the policies proposed by the Bush Administration hurt the environment? Perhaps. But the industrialized world (at various speeds) has been going at a fever pitch for decades. We've driven cars since the early 1900's and many industries around the world have greatly polluted the environment. Arguably, to the contribution of greenhouse gases that promote global warming. I'm not a defender of Bush and I disagree with many of his policies, but I think anyone that puts their blinding hatred of him and his relatively short 6 years in office, do a great disservice to the getting anywhere on the issue. If you want to get anywhere and get people on your side, you can't start off the discussion with "Bush is an idiot! now listen to what I have to say." You're alienating a good portion of your audience. Like it or not, there are a lot of influential people that, if you think about it, could support your cause. Instead of ripping on everyone that is different from you, or doesn't completely embrase your ethos, try and bring them on board. Give them good reasons to change their ways. Hell, make it financially worth their while. The point is as long as the vast majority isn't going in one direction, nothing is going to change. The country needs to change as a whole. And that isn't going to happen with Bush in office, and it certainly isn't going to change when he's out of office.

MSRP is $199. And you've used it...twice. I'd ask $125.

I live in the area and that section is 25 mph. It blows me away how fast some people drive that road. If you even think about going the speed limit, they ride your ass hard. It's nuts. That guy deserves what's coming to him. Both from his wife and the police. "Hi Honey." "......hi." "Ummmm...where's the car?"

Nice. -
Yep. I talked with the ranger at the GPNF station and he said this almost verbatim. I'm heading up shortly after the snow falls!

I think the money's being made.

More exposure for lost booty.

In my experience, its not so much how long it's stored at any one time, it's how many times it has been compressed. Eventually, it simply begins to recover completely at a diminishing rate.

There was a day when there used to be longer, less-fat skis that worked fine in the b/c. I think some of you are spoiled. Try them, and if they don't work out, sell them here and transfer those Fritschis to a new set. $180.

There are always lessons to be learned and CONSTRUCTIVE ideas to be expressed, but I think within the overall context, this statement has merit.

I never let a bottle touch my lips...its straight down and in between swallows it was resting nicely in the snow. -

You could walk after one of those!?!?! What do you have a hollow leg or something? Or a high tolerance thanks to a lifetime of gritty experience. We pulled those babies out around 3pm and drank them into the evening. I was by all accounts hammered. -

We each carried and drank one of those giant 72oz. bottles of Hair of the Dog brew at the lunch counter several years ago. You have to carry out the heavy empty though. Good gawd, that was fun! -
FWIW, I've owned 5 Dell laptops and 1 tower. And though in my former life I swore by Macs, when I had to switch to a PC, Dell has never let me down. The few times I ever had an issue, it was resolved fast. Having said that, there are a lot of small computer shops that have geeks running them that will sell you/build you whatever you like for cheap. You usually have to be a little bit computer savy, but if you are, go for it. I bet you could get a nice LT for <$200.

RENT! I don't live where you do so I can't recommend a good store, but find a place that rents. You can try out some great AT gear (that will work great inbounds) and at least narrow down a few key attributes to getting the right gear. It may cost you $30-$50 for a set up, but that's cheap for helping you narrow down what works for you.

Nice work Scott. This is reminiscent of Chad's post awhile back.

I likened him to the left what Michael Savage is to the right.
