i.e. falls on static cord are very bad. Falls on Dynamic cord (even factor 2) not so bad.

I can belay 5.15 with the best of em

What they said. Biggest functional difference is weight, features, and padding. Rock harness are meant to catch falls comfortably, make for a moderately comfortable hanging belay, have lots of easily accessible loops to get things off of quickly on-lead, and are not necessarily weight conscious. A glacier harness (or easy alpine harness) weight / packability, and the ability to ride under a pack are the most important aspect. It'll hold a fall just fine, but won't be comfortable doing so. These are not typically harnesses you want to hang in for very long. Perfectly safe, but not very comfortable. I've got a couple of bod's, but which I had a Couloir!

They both need a good bitch slap. For that matter so do you! grrrr.... Being sick makes me grumpy.

nothing like a good physics experiment! you've got gravity, fracture mechanics, stability, elasticity, all wrapped up together. Not to mention, you know, breakin shit

Aeronautics and Astronautics (i.e. glorified Mechanical Engineering) I have a feeling there are a whole lot more closet nerds on here than one would expect. I'm pretty sure you can't trundle a rock around here without hitting an engineer or programmer.

There are three kinds of lies. Lies Damned Lies Statistics Mark Twain. That said more guns = more people dying from firearms.

Hey, I haven't had one of these in a while! Hey don't forget my PhD !!!! rat bastard not respected the credentials

Yes, but most adults I know are far less likely to stick someone elses < insert random object > into their mouths or up there nose. representative random objects include but are not limited to: shoes hands blocks cups feet nose small furry animal previously chewed on bit of fruit previously yaked on random object ....

Kimmo 1st rule of holes... when you're in one, stop digging. Everyone else remember the rule about wrestling with pigs. You get muddy and they like it.

I'm a firm believer that we should re-institute survival of the fittest for everyone over 18. No more seatbelt laws for adults, no more warning labels on toothpaste. If you can kill yourself with tootpaste, you really shouldn't procreate....

a reasonable approach. although knowing if your kid is allergic to vaccine cultures is problematic until actually administering a vaccine. btw, have you had your booster for pertussis? I wish there were a "stupid" vaccine. Your responses, which is what we have to go by here, indicate a lack of comprehension of the science of the issue. every time you make something idiot proof, they just come out with a better idiot.
-
I'm pro vaccine but I'm also busy and lazy. That said my daughter is certainly up to date on all of her vaccines.
-
Hey Me too oh wait..
-
yes, shingles was sooo prevalent before the vaccine, wasn't it? Umm, well, yes. Most of the older folks I know ended up with Shingles at some point. Hell I know 40 year olds with Shingles. Of course way back in the day before vaccines lots of folks just kicked the bucket earlier from preventable diseases like the flu, thereby keeping rates for cancer, shingles, etc. down.

Petzl carabiner suitable for belay w/Munter hitch?
selkirk replied to pcg's topic in The Gear Critic
Should perform just fine new. After extended use and wear with either a munter or a device I'd watch for that lip around the inside to start getting sharp though. Without having seen or used it, i'd guess it should be fine for few seasons, of climbing, but probably not years and years. -
there, I fixed it for you. ;p

Remember, muscles and tendons don't get stronger when you lift / climb. They get stronger when you allow them to rest and repair after you lift/climb. The rest days for that muscle group are important (doesn't mean you can't exercise, but alternate groups so you're not pounding the same muscles every day). Oh, and if you're in high school still try wrestling. Hell of a way to get mentally, physically, and cardio-vascularly strong during the winter months.

Has anybody tried these out? I'm looking for something that's lighter, more compressible, and provides an equal amount of warmth as my fleece for mid layer on winter climbs, PNW volcano's etc. Would prefer synthetic (have a down puffy already for when it's really cold) Was also contemplating the Nano-Puff, Montbell Thermawrap, and the Arctery Atom (I think?) TIA

I'm not that bored yet. Maybe tomorrow if you play nice in the sandbox with the other kids.

firstly, studies inre tv and impact on kids are inconclusive. i've read studies showing a full 20% lower "developmental rate" (don't ask for specifics! can't remember where and what) amongst =<2 yr olds who watched >2 hours of tv per day, vs same aged kids who watched none. certainly one possibility is that parents who are ok plopping their kids in front of a tv just might be a wee bit less inclined to read/interact with their kids as much as the no-tv parents.... inre vaccines: "free ride on the vaccines of others"? i thought vaccines were perfectly safe and innocuous? if so, why would the vaccinated get worked up about this? It's called herd immunity, I thought we had been over this .....

What he said.

the weight limit is interesting. I have a hard time believing that weight acting down would cause the roof racks to fail at 150lbs. Maybe if if were loaded dead center only? I'd be much more worried about sail and the airdynamic forces due to a large box, than a bit of weight.

My electromagnetic flux line theory is pretty poor but ..... If the Avy beacon isn't laying flat but is tilted at a funky angle, isn't it possible to have your max reading not be directly above the beacon, but off to one side according to where the flux lines are concentrated? In which case if you just started digging you might miss the victim entirely. But once you've located with a probe you know for sure.
