Overheard at the climbing gym last night...
Dr_Crash replied to fenderfour's topic in Climber's Board
This (without the swearing) should go in an updated version of that Men's journal on climbing, the one with "Bouldering is hiking with some obstacles thrown in." drC -
And it mostly suck to ski in mountaineering boots (even plastics) from what I've been told. That will negate the "skiing for pleasure" part of your goals. Paging coondog... drC

You may meet people some night and hook up with them, but I would not count on driving there and simply finding a partner. Thanks for the offer to climb. If I decide to go there and take it easy (except for these 5.13c single pitches you can belay) I'll PM you. drC

I want to come but I have noone to climb with this weekend. Anybody is loking for a partner? drC
-
I am thinking of going down to Smith (from Seattle East side) this weekend to join in the festivities and climb. My regular partner is off to LA, so I am looking for someone. I'll lead 5.9 (and will try above with no guarantee ) and follow up to 10a/b. You've got to be fun to be with (I will too). drC

Too bad contraception doesn't start with a "J:" they might have heard of it then. drC

LOL. Hey, French-Americans I've never heard of are not countrymen. Now, while I like Dr Smashed as a name and will probably reuse it (thanks), you guys should consider that klenke had been drinking more (thus his unsure steps compromised his perspective and he thought that I had been stumbling), and is looking for an angle to attract the attention of the pretty blonde who was next to me . He mentioned that some day, he'd like to bag more than peaks . drS PS: It was fun, are you going to be regulars?

Thanks for the math frenchie Hey, you wouldn't believe the number of people who think that you need to divide the rope length by the number of people on it, and not that number minus one. Oh, and for you metric people, they would be ~15 meters apart (minus rope for knots).

If he's buying AT boots, then why the 404s and not something better like Dynafit or even one of the more alpine bindings like Diamir or Naxo? drC - On 188 cm G4s + Trekkers + Alpine boots

I swear these Martinis had been tampered with. drC

30 m is plenty for 3 people. They'll be 40+ feet apart. Make sure you get the dry Rando if that's your choice, they also have a non-dry. drC

back at you. At least we got Trango, but yes, what can we do with a team of non-climbers who just don't believe that Adams is Adams? My "complaint" would more be like WTF, I know nothing about this country's past, how can I answer these? We'll be back with a revenge drC

I second NOLSe's opinion. I use such a rope (except it's an 8.4 mm from Sterling, but it's the same length). I used it last on Sahale two weeks ago, as a team of 3, and even though the glacier was pretty open at that time of the year, I still felt like I could have added a fourth member on the rope comfortably. RE: prusiks, if using 6mm prusiks on such a rope, make a fourth wrap. Or screw the prusiks and rig those cool Tiblocs (with *slack* always on the sling between the Tibloc and your harness; you don't want to fall on the Tibloc!). Edit: Duh, I believe you've seen that rope and the distance between people, right? drC

There is no way you could be the oldest there. Maybe at the trivia table but not at the Boxcar. Some of the bar fixtures there had a long life. See you there. drC

Talus is a summer weight, super guide is a winter weight. IIRC the super guide also is better articulated, has edge guards inside the legs for us skiers (and for cramponers too maybe), and removable suspenders maybe? Uh, I guess I spent too much time looking at these things last year I use my summer weight stuff with long undies for skiing, works too except that edge guards would be very nice. drC

I'd like to get the purple one if you ever split the set. drC

Look at that. I was going to the Boxcar for Trivia Night with my friends, trying for a second win in a row. So I guess I'll see you there. What'll be your team, snugtop? drC

I use my Maui Jim glasses everywhere (expensive). They are dark, but the most notable thing is that they are coated with anti glare whatever on both sides of the lens so even though I do not have side shields I am never bothered. drC

Most outdoor clothing is bought by the hip wannabee urban types? drC

I have a WM flight vest and if I need more warmth I can top it off with a Patagonia Micro Puff which is synthetic and resists water well; the latter doesn't pack nearly as well of course. But the combination is very versatile. drC

Looks like a sweet pack. I have a similar pack from BCA but with gear slings just on the left side and not detachable. It was (it is discontinued I believe) a great little pack with an integrated insulated 100 oz hydrtion pouch. Does the Grivel pack have decent support for an hydration bladder? I mean a pouch inside w/ something (velcro?) to hold the top, that can hold it pretty well? drC

Used maybe 5 times, never dropped, $60, Seattle area only. drC

Thanks! (And thanks for posting in both fora.) drC

I am shopping for one crampon that will do both (I know, I know). Looks like the Sarken would be good for that, and you're saying the G14s may not? Remember, I have the fruit boots for the monopointing drC
