  1. Oh, and I did NOT suggest that an uneducated populace was a good idea. I said parents should pay for it.
  2. That post was to K.
  3. Sure, cause everyone with kids can pay for private school, and low-income parents and single-mothers really have time for homeschooling I bet all those kids would be better of with no schooling at all, right? I'd say the government has an interest in an educated citizenry, as does society, and it behooves us to ensure that a minimum standard of education is available to all. Thomas Jefferson certainly thought so, too. And some would say that the overall physical health of our nation is equally important. And being sure that people don't sleep on the streets in this wealthy country might be considered a moral action. There are a lot of things we have a duty to support, but don't. But just try to tell a bitching parent that they should just figure something else out if their subsidized schooling doesn't work for them and you get all sorts of strange, twisted responses.
  4. Ah, so we can pay to educate your kids, but you won't kick in to keep other people's kids healthy enough to go to school?
  5. Cool. I find the Christian bashing lame and repetitive. then don't participate in it. Ignore it. Yes, they are great. They don't make up for the extra cost of raising a family but they help. I have no concern in helping anyone raise their families. It was their choice, it is their responsibility They'll be the ones running the country and helping you out when you are old. Yeah, yeah, I know you've save, invested etc. but you never know. With a private education, only the best educated, brightest, weathiest will run the country. I don't see furthering politician's careers as a good argument for public schooling. And no, today's kids will not be helping me out when I am old. The sorry ass SSI, if even still around, will not be my savior. And again, only well-educated people (which we both agree do not come from the K-12 public education system) will be paying significant taxes anyway. Why wouldn't we push for them to be educated in a private system so they can get smarter and wealthier? Overall ROI in our public schools suck - but it varies from place to place. Best approach (since I already fucking pay the taxes) is to move where the schools are decent. Which I have. Can't wait to get that $2100 rebate soon. Certainly you can see the obvious contradiction for conservatives here. They bitch about all these wasteful programs and staunchly stand behind privatization of almost everything. That "almost" ends at their own pocketbooks. You are responsible for the heath, housing, feeding, and education of your own family. Not me.
  6. And since when has 15 min been considered a crowning achievement?
  7. They should read cc.com. THey'll learn everything they need to know.
  8. Factual, Fair, Fucked, whatever. It's repetitive and lame. And for all the complaining about the public school system, I wish they'd just privatize the whole thing. I get pissed when people bitch about the subsidy homeowners get on their mortgage interest writeoffs but no one mentions the many subsidies parents get. Why should I have to pay for your children's education? Why should you get a tax benefit just because you decided to breed? And then all parents do is bitch about everything the public school system does. Fine, pay for it yourself. Or better yet, home school the little shits.
  9. Actually, I find any response that says something like, "that's a typical leftist remark" or "what a predictable neo-con knee-jerk" as an empty, dismissive ad-hominem attack that does nothing to further the conversation. I see it happening a lot in these threads and I don't understand why anyone would waste the pixels with it--free or not.
  10. Believe it or not, I make it to quite a few of the meetings related to business with the community (as it does affect my own home). And I'll bet you'll agree that folks who show up to these type of meetings and like taking polls on this type of topic are probably going to be for this designation. It ain't exactly a random sample, is it?
  11. I think that's free speech.
  12. Why would anyone deny children the opportunity to listen to a person who is going to be a huge historical figure of our times? That just blows my mind.
  13. I want my 30 bucks.
  14. It's a start. My monthly gas bill is around $600, so that's what--thirty bucks a month? $360 a year? I'll take it.
  15. I love the Surprise Attacks! That is how our work meetings have been going recently.
  16. Like the "free cat" picture. Anything super funny.
  17. I think he meant nothing mentioned about the cost of the rescue.
  18. Then, they were waiting for Godot.
  19. I do agree with his suggestion to cut the 18 cent fed tax on gas for a bit. That would have been smarter than the "stimulus" bullshit.
  20. That's the one!

    Obama = 666?

    or both.

    Obama = 666?

    And who, by the way, spent a lot of effort focusing on this very issue--the objectivity of truth.

    Obama = 666?

    I have most of the works of the authors you mention in my library. Doesn't change my post, except to extend it to them. We are all just putting forth our opions. Even Nietzsche, a man who did not prove anything.

    I think you are confusing people "not listening" to you with people who just don't share your point of view. You see the Bible as a storybook. That's fine. Others see it as the Word of God. That's fine. It is great that you lay out your stance clearly and that you are comforatable with it. You are heard. But remember that this is your opinion and it may or may not accurately reflect the truth of the universe, the afterlife, the spiritual realm, etc.
