  1. polkadotter?
  2. Okay, well, I was going to delete the post, but it looks like the edit feature is gone? Anyway, a head cold is bugging me, so I guess I'll stay home. WC- Check your PMs.
  3. One last check before I call it good. It's looking like it may be uncomfortably cold up there this weekend, anyway.
  4. "Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for African American compared to European American." I don't know if this is true or not...I'd guess it has more to do with my right vs. left hand coordination while taking the test. I don't know if everyone is a racist , but I do believe that most people have prejudices. It reminds me of a topic covered in my sociology class quite a while back; it was about "freedom" to think. The argument was, well, probably no. Even though all of us feel we have the freedom to think what we want, we have social and cultural pre-programming that affects how we think subconsciously, so in effect, no, we don't think freely. But, hell, I'm no expert...
  5. Beautiful day today. What a surprise. Tons of people enjoying the fresh powder today; I'm sure Meadows is pissed.
  6. Looking for partner. I can lead WI4. Have all my own gear, including ropes, screws, etc (although it'd be nice to have another half rope; otherwise, I can just use my Beal Joker as the other half rope). With the cold weather, Canmore/Banff might be forming up better, now. I'm assuming the Hyalite road is getting snowed in more now. Available to leave Thursday night after work (5pm) or early Friday a.m. from PDX; need to be home by 9pm Monday night. Doesn't really matter what I do; it'll be my first trip of the season, so I won't be looking to run laps on WI5s...unless I'm the follower. Basic knowledge/ability of ice climbing is necessary, but other than that, I'm okay with whatever. Really, it'll be a fun, chill trip. Let's go climbing! PM me or email me at anderson7149ATcomcastDOTnet -Chad
  7. I'm on my third Suunto Vector and I love it (rock climbing was hard on the first two- Suunto was great and replaced them with refurbished units above and beyond the call of duty). The altimeter is great; I don't use/trust the compass too much. If all you're looking for is an altimeter watch, then the Suunto Altimax is a great option. My g/f has one and it has been great to her, as well....and they're 25 bucks cheaper on average than the Vector.
  8. I'll second Page Hamilton (Helmet) and Steve Albini (Big Black/ Shellac), and add J Mascis.
  9. Awesome thread; great info. Now, if I could only get the meatheads off the weights at the gym fast enough to do a true crossfit workout It all seems to be a strange balance to me, and a tricky one...meaning, maintaining a training regimen, whilst having enough reserve to go out and climb, if Stewart, Donn, or Rodney says "hey, lets go check out [insert climb here]!" I'm guessing that periodization isn't for me/my schedule...but strength training is obviously a must. Good thread, scottgg!
  10. Sold.
  11. So, then, what's a good way to weight train without ruining your climbing days? Low reps, high weight? The opposite? Just keep at it so long your body adjusts, and suffer through the tired days of climbing?
  12. Oh, okay then...I didn't know who you were referencing. The [Re:____] line of your response indicated climberx, not rbwen.
  13. Thanks, Scott, let me know when you get the links fixed! Cheers, Chad
  14. http://www.gearexpress.biz/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/fusion.JPG These, too...
  15. Assuming you have full rigid crampomatic compatible boots, it sounds like you're looking for just that...G14s. They come with everything you need to switch it back and forth between dual and mono, so you can experiment. They also collapse down pretty well, and don't collect snow as bad as a cookie-cutter framed full rigid crampon. http://www.grivelnorthamerica.com/products.php?gid=5&id=48 The new BD Cyborg may be worth checking out, as well, but I believe I read that they're a bit heavier than the G14s. http://www.bdel.com/gear/cyborg_with_abs.php
  16. In case this isn't a sarcastic troll, "Syncro" is the name VW used for their 4WD Vanagons; similar to "Quattro" used by Audi, but a bit different in the way the system works.
  17. Nice syncro, Kevin! I'm planning on getting out of the VW thing (too many hobbies), but that sure is a nice looking rig. I'd reinforce what Kevin has to say about parts for these (syncros)....they don't come cheap. I'd also suggest a post '86 Westie, as others have said. They have a bit more power, and you can go many places with them. My pal has an '87; he puts studded tires on in the winter, and goes all over the place with it.
  18. Ok, I'll restate more clearly. What temp to start looking for on telemetry sites to start to suspect water ice formation.
  19. try and cool a glass of room temperature water below room temperature by only blowing on it.. Point taken, but temperature wasn't the only thing I was thinking of; I'd imagine if a stiff wind was blowing, it might turn the water into more of a mist than a running stream of water, making it more apt to freeze.
  20. Oooh, ground temps. Good point; hadn't thought of that one.
  21. I know it's not right at 32 degrees (0C). With all the water running on the faces right now, how cold will it have to get to start to freeze it up? Mid 20s? I'm sure that wind has something to do with it. I google searched it, but didn't come up with anything.
  22. Good deal. When I get a chance, soon, I'll give that a try.
  23. Ok, so to recap... Alex suggested Spybot, and Adaware. Have both of those, and they never find anything. I understand that an external drive may help out...but I'm trying to find out why it's not functioning normally. Some other suggested more RAM, and this might help, but I have friends, and my g/f's computer, that run much faster than mine with the same RAM...and their's run much faster/smoother than mine, without the eterally-running HD that's doing nothing. I check the task manager, and seriously, there's no open applications running, except explorer, and even though there's a long list of processes "running", they're all at 0% of memory usage. The only one that jumps here and there is McAfee, and it's never very much. I wouldn't mind getting rid of some unwanted processes, but I don't know what some of them are. I know that the Dell guy adjusted the automatic indexing to help out with the speed, but it didn't help anything. And I don't know what the hell a DLL is. And, I did check Paul's suggestion...and it's already set at DMA when possible. Disk Defrag is run regularly, and doesn't seem to do make a difference.
