  1. Word. As Bouchard said: If you can't climb; gear won't help you. If you can climb you won't need all the crap (or something like that).
  2. Think of those boots as high performance sport climbing slippers... should you get a pair you would fit them to maximize the sensitivity and performance they offer... snug. After a few weekends on free range water ice your boots would be too big as they would have to clip all your frost bitten toes off. Ice comps generally involve heated isolation rooms stocked with all the red bull and coffee you can drink... a place you can afford to change boots are your leisure and not risk frost bite. Finally (and this is just my 2 cents) IMO unless it is slow forming WI (homogeneous) you're going to want dual points anyways... Just out of curiosity... how much WI have you climbed? And what kind of boots do you wear? My leathers pull double duty: ice/mixed and alpine and I'm not trashing them in 1 season which I think is the original reason you gave... save your boots for the alpine.
  3. My mountie sense is tingling...

    Layton?

Come on man... I'm just messing around... I picked you only because of all the turds on this page from PDX you're the only one who still gets out there... and what do you expect when you post such things as "I once got a bloody nose having sex" or "alcohol is aid? crap! I only get laid using alcohol"...
  5. Yeah... I picked that one only because Sherman tends to get a little bit more snow on average than WA pass so it would give him a worst case scenario for what to expect. But yeah... Sherman is definitely east of there...

  10. Good call... here is the closest camera shot (Sherman Pass) I could find: More info on wsdot.wa.gov
  11. FYI: In the past WA DOT has closed HWY 20 on Thanksgiving weekend... I almost got locked in (I think it was in '99) so check before you go. You can do Silver Star year round... its some great skiing in the spring... You might want to approach from silver star creek if there is a lot of snow on the ground.
  12. Mixed: yes. WI: no.
  13. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, QUIT BEING STUPID!!! Don't be an anus, Cracked. I am soliciting opinions for a friend who thinks he wants a pair. Do you buy gear just because the advertisement says you should? Well...maybe you do....but my question was, "ARE THEY PRACTICAL?" Or...is it just another pair of boots for the Emelda Marcos of climbing gear to spend his money on. What specific questions did your friend have? Did they use the words: "are they practical" or was that you? Is he/she climbing double digit M lines?
  14. Just my 2 cents: the clipper is better based solely on the consensus that it is much harder to deform/damage the clip which is generally the cause of accidental detachments. I think AlpineDave just switched from BD to clipper… he might be able to give you some info.
  15. Though generally more for running applications I will also use some or all of these (from e-caps.com) on some climbs becauase I am weak sauce and used up all my energy chest beating about nothing: Leading up to (1-2 weeks before) event: Xobaline (increases red blood cell count for increased oxygen intake) Few hours before/during: Sustained Energy (mix in water) Anti-Fatigue Caps (fights ammonia build up) ATP 100 (ATP in a pill!) Liquid Endurance (mix in your water) Endurolytes (for really hot days) Perpetuem (mix in water) Vitamin I After: Shark Cartilage (for my knees) Tissue Rejuvenator (faster recovery) Recoverite Vitamin I I use this on a daily basis in conjuction with running or lifting: Premium Insurance Caps Race Caps Supreme Recoverite Consider reading this if it sounds like what you are training for. Peace!
  16. LYleK: why not just use the charlet moser clipper leash..? it is designed specifically for the quark. Have you tried them out? Just curious…
  17. FYI for those considering purchasing them I have the 11s and found they fit true to size IMO. The toe box runs a little small (slightly smaller than scarpa) but all in all well fitting. A good alternative for those of us who can't wear la sportiva. Great sub 2 lb boot!
  18. So what is the magic number?
  19. Yeah Oldman was a little late in his post but it’s not his fault the original picture link was deleted… cut the guy some slack… his contributions to the community well before most of us were climbing… or even born… deserve that. Case in point: Oldman was 1/2 of the first ascent on that face (with Bob Bauman)... story goes Bob protected the overhang with one pin... have you climbed it? How about the memorial route on Thielsen? Oldman was apart of that also… It would be a shame to lose contributions to cc from individuals that have accomplished so much. Peace.
  20. I'm not bragging about it... I wish I could say I wasn't involved that day. My only point is what validity can we lend someone that has never gone to war yet is confident they would kill someone. That's all. And I have a small dick. 8 cms last I heard.
  21. What do you call holding someone's skull together while waiting for the ambulance to come? You are just pitiful John. And I graduated from Thurston High School in the late 90s... barely... google that one ace. I can assure you I have seen much more blood and action than you. Unlike you though I am not proud of it... it makes me sick to replay that day in my head... Pitiful is someone who makes comments like "I'd kill someone" after witnessing first hand how truly disgusting violence is. How many more times will you need to experience violence before you realize how pointless it is? Why perpetuate the cycle? An eye for an eye make the whole world blind.
  22. So no and no it sounds like... thanks for proving my original post: It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell. William Sherman
  23. You'd better learn a little more about me before you make statements like that. Are you a veteran? Have you willingly taken another human being's life? If not STFU and quit acting like you're tough enough to do so.
