Any outdoor education experience (NOLS, OB, etc) will be dramatic... whether or not it is positive will depend on your kid.
If he has no interest in the outdoors it will be a dramatically bad experience. Think how you would feel if someone made you carry a backpack that weighted 45% of your body weight for 30 days against your will. If he is genuinely interested in learning more about whatever course he (not you) chooses then he will have a great time.
I would highly caution you against sending your kid on an outdoor education course just to get him out of the house (I say this only based on what you said in your last thread about your child... sorry if I misinterpreted things)... and the fact of the matter is NOLS or OB won't take him unless he wants to be there... NOLS and OB is in the business of education not entertainment of you children.
If you have specific questions about NOLS or NYC shoot me a pm... If I can't answer them I can put you in contact with other people if you want.
CorvallisClimb is a NOLS graduate also... but then again all he does is and aid climb since he took his course so you might want to reconsider Just kidding Ty!
I got my nights mixed up... I've got precommitments tonight so I'm out Sorry!
Thursday is open so if people want to climb... rock, drytool, hood lap, etc... holla!
Good times last night
I'll be there at 5. If it is just you and me I will boulder until 5:45ish and then start hanging TRs. I will pick routes based on what is dry. Look for my truck... I will be nearby.
Funny you say that Brett... looking at your posts it seems you have solicited the advice and insight of cc.com more than once.
Which one is it? Waste of bandwidth or source of info for newbies that don't understand avalanches?
When is the last time you had or heard about a camalot blowing up or falling apart on anyone? Why would C3s be any different?
They are plenty flexible.
You can get specific locks that are approved by the TSA. Basically TSA has a master key that can open a number of locks so they don't have to cut them.
How long before Columbia Sportwear Co (who owns MH) votes to move production to a cheaper facility to maximize profit? Or has it already happen? Yeah you got a warranty but when you replace crap w/ crap are you really fixing anything?
Single wall from BD, Bibler or Integral Designs.
Depends. Some TSA are hardcore... some are not.
I flew last week and checked everything only to have it end up in San Diego bitches.
You do get 2 50 lb bags to check through so unless you are carrying a bigwall rack you should be manage a trip on 100 lbs of gear.
