So Off, what are the chances of things drying up out there by tonight?
-
I've been there a few times. Definitely bring bikes. Rock quality is good in spots and nasty in others. There are a few good moderate routes on the back wall in addition to some good tougher routes. If you're not a fan of crowds it's a good place to be.

I would absolutely love to get in on this as a highly competent noob!

Yes indeed, another good night. Glad you could make it out Arlen!

What's the weather looking like down there Off? There's a bit of a drizzle here in Oly.

Many times when there are chains, there is one set of chains coming off of each hangar or bolt for a total of two sets of chains. Thread your rope through the bottom link in both sets of chains. Therefore if one link breaks in one of the chains, you have your redundency in the other set of chains and bolt.

Fair enough, unfortunately I believe there are many unaware individuals who travel into the backcountry. These people carrying guns are what makes me nervous. You're correct that I shouldn't label these people paranoid as I have not been "in their shoes", just as you should not necessarily include me in "you folks". It is too bad that not many people have the ability to deal with situations that arise in the manner that you stated, for these folks guns are a very valuable tool. I'm not saying that I definitely have these abilities. I do believe that if confronted with this situation that my physical abilities and quick thinking would allow me to escape with my life, just as yours did when the bear charged you. Cheers to you and hopefully we will all have many more days spent safely in the wild.

That's quite the assumption you make there Bug. You do bring up a good point about awareness though. In my opinion there aren't many people who have that sense to tell when they are being stalked/followed/watched. This is probably a good thing too, otherwise we would have many paranoid people hiking with gun in hand because they "think" they are being "stalked". Not to say the feeling isn't always true, just that I don't think there are that many people who are really in tune with their surroundings.

I had a feeling that someone was gonna throw that back at you Greg. Thanks for the link. Although it seems that many cougar attacks would happen far too quickly to have the time to open your backpack and retrieve a gun.
-
Doesn't sound like the gun was necessary, unless the cougar could just sense the confidence felt by the man holding it.

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week!

Yikes, sprayed by Ponch, it only goes up from here. Nice work Dru, 2 bonus points fer the clever foetoe.

I'm sorry to hear that. I did the same thing playing soccer about 7 years ago. I also had arthroscopic surgery to remove the torn area. While in there they drained a little fluid as well and I got to take home some neat pictures. Recovery time for me was fairly quick. I think I was on crutches for a little less than a week. After that it was about another couple of weeks before I was out running around again. Knees are no fun when injured, I'm pretty much done playing competitive soccer because I want to save my knees. I partially tore my MCL about 2 years ago while playing soccer yet again. That was a frustrating injury. My advice would be not to rush recovery time, your body will tell you when it's ready to roll again. Until then take it easy and don't do anything that causes even the slightest pain. Good luck and let me know how things progress.

Yes indeed, looks like it's going to be a beautiful day. Hope to see some more folks out there.

Were you guys in Leavenworth? Was there this weekend with a small crew. We were eating dinner at Gustov's yesterday after climbing and a group of about 5 or so guys came in and sat at the table behind us. One of the guys was a dead ringer for Marc Twight if it wasn't him. All in all a great weekend with great friends and excellent climbing.
