  1. Maybe you're well aware of it, but that is exactly what lead to the demise of a few climbers from out of the PNW that flew in with a vacation window and tried to make it work despite the weather (see that famous Mt Hood incident, etc). Good on you for recognizing that! IMO there are things to do no matter what the weather, but sometimes they are just a little more mellow/less exciting... like going to crag at Mt Erie. Anyway it can make it more fun too as you can create a whole list of possibilities and research them all.
  2. Uhhh....any trip where you get to use a chainsaw is pretty awesome. Wow those are some great pictures, you know that first one is special because you put it first....it is! Thank you for sharing. That is another solid adventure.
  3. I’m in West Seattle and I too have a copy you can borrow.
  4. Unicorns! You may get another chance.
  5. Congratulations!
  6. The recent ones in the Oly forums. Mt Stone is one of my favorites, but can’t take Kiba the last little bit because it’s Park. Been meaning to go up Skokomish for a while though. It’s in the Park too, but it’s just an one I haven’t been up yet.
  7. What are your plans for 2024? Not looking to get details on your super secret project, but general details to get some psych going This year I just want to get out and do more with my fur climbing partner. Since my vacation time is likely already spoken for (25th wedding anniversary, hunting in AK, canoe trip to Canada, week at the ocean), it will all have to be weekend warrior stuff. 1. Warrior with @JasonG 2. Repeats of my 2-3 favorite yearly Olympic hikes with variations 3. Exploring more in the Cascades. Dog friendly scrambles up peaks, to waterfalls, lakes, alpine. 4. Go further. I'm in better shape than I have been in a while, so I want to use it before its gone.
  8. I would not want to be on the wrong side of a condensated fart.
  9. We will do another soon. Thanks to @Toast for making this one happen even if your sick ass didn’t show up.
  10. Have you guys hiked up to Twin Falls in winter? No trekking poles. No traction just boots. An alder branch. Until you have done this you are all just my sons and daughters. And I love you.
  11. Heck even the waterfall at the Quilceda Casino/outlet mall looked in on Sunday. Sorry no pics.
  12. Who can make it? I'll try to get up there with my jolly bag of CC.com stickers. If you're in West Seattle maybe we can car pool.
  13. Anyway I think I even bought that book (Gravity's Rainbow) because of the username...but I haven't read it yet.
  14. sent you an email!
  15. Not to mention that this makes this an ALL AMERICAN climb 🇱🇷
  16. Git some!
  17. Had to read this again this morning. Thanks again for sharing your adventure!
  18. Yep agree. I was just watching a youtube channel this past weekend and they were exploring an old gold mine down in California. It was a huge adit, with passage ways going everywhere. They found a ton of that old steel left in the mine that looked exactly like that, and you could see the business end of them where they were pretty used up. I think you could also hook them onto a machine driven by a compressor or something? Or at least the mine in the Youtube vid had one.
  19. If LaSportiva don't fit your feet I think these are equal to the TX4s. I picked up a pair last year when in Austria because the mountaineering boots I had brought were tearing up my feet (not sure why I had tons of miles in them already), so I used the Scarpas on my hut hike and they are really nice. I don't know if it was just a Euro thing, but the version i bought are a sweet teal color: https://us.scarpa.com/mescalito-men-s They are so comfy I've taken to just wearing them as every day shoes.
  20. Marc LeClerc. Our cheamclimber.
  21. Damn never would pass up hearing more about either or both encounters…
