as i said sobo, its my preference. some people do feel safer in numbers or don't have friend who can teach them. i was once in the same boat, and was lucky enough to meet some cool people who taught me the basics.

Alpinfox has a similiar picture in his house...taken a long time ago on some mountain. its cool...look at all those people who are interested in climbing. with experienced instructors of course. for me such an experience would not be ideal. i much prefer a party the maximum size of 3. i like a more personal experience, i go to the mountains to escape crowds, not be in them.

While its healthy to have more than one source of analysis on Accidents in North American Mountaineering, i prefer sources that try to interview the actual participants, rather than relying on 3rd hand accounts. 15881 posts bitch.
