Stewart had a great story as well!

Contest winner Bellows had an interesting tale to tell....
-
another thing that happened tonight was the anointing of Rolf to the Big Ballers Club. The last couple of hardman TESTPIECES to go down in the Cascades have fallen to a couple of guys. One being the OB, or Original Baller, Senor Wehrly. But the unsung one, the one (and we all know how much Wehrly is all about tooting his horn) who lead all the hard pitches...well that was Rolf, my BFF. Welcome to the club Rolf! I wish I was more than the guy who just printed the t-shirts, but you guys do all the heavy lifting. Remember, you can't talk about it. Shhhhhhhh...long deserved, good to see you tonight man. and Kelly too. Wehrly was at the last pubclub, so we gave him the night off. http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1111243/TR_North_Hozomeen_Mtn_Zorro_Fa#Post1111243 http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=836613

It was really great this time! Sorry you couldn't link up Wayne, but there will be more. I will post up the contest winner(s) tomorrow. Great time, I think we can improve on the venue as far as how it fits our particular group. But we made it work, and the crew was strong including the climbing book author guy who joined us and hung out all night. Thanks to all that came out, it was great to see you and to hear some stories. Stay tuned to this thread, we'll have another pubclub soon and there should be even more stuff for us to give away (might cost you a song and a dance for entertainment purposes).

Plan B is in effect. Go to the lamplighter next door. No place to sit, etc

Primary Plan for Pubclub tonight March 19 is still Chucks Hop Shop on 85th from 7pm till 10 or 11 or whatever. 656 NW 85th in the Greenwood neighborhood. if we are not there for some reason, we will be at the Lamplighter. 820 NW 85th Street

Someone want suggest a backup spot in the neighborhood just in case? If we're not at Chucks, we'll be at? At any rate the forecast doesn't include rain right now...

Yes you got it right Matt, hope to see you there. Well I'll throw all the CC.com shirts I have in the car. I've never been to this place so I don't know how big it is! Hopefully it is big enough so whoever shows up can all sit together. I'm sure there are other places in the area that we can move to if that is an issue.
-
Cool, I should have shirts for all who show up! Don't forget the contest. It doesn't have to be a big deal, so don't be shy. This is a friendly gathering!
-
Sam, since we all know who you are at this point, we know you've already seen both of Wayne's peckers. You're going to have to specify which one.
-
Rob, the first rule of Pubclub is don't talk about not coming to Pubclub....

If you're like me and have never been to Chucks before, they just got a nice little write up in the paper: http://seattletimes.com/html/musicnightlife/2023111017_happyhourhopshopxml.html?cmpid=2628 the times has a paywall so you may not be able to read it...article is about the CD branch, but they mention the one we are going to.

Contest is this: bring some climbing related item that has an interesting story attached to it that you can share. Or not so interesting story. Or funny story. Or weird...whatever. Preferably something that doesn't smell too bad. You'll have to share that story with everyone and we can all vote who should win the pass. I'll break any tie. You may need to share the story multiple times as people show up. Pass will be given away at 10pm. I'll need to document the winning item with a photo to share here (story will stay with those who show up)
-
Yep, still got shirts so post up your size if you're coming! Also, I have a 10x Seattle Bouldering Project pass to give away. What sort of contest should we have? Its this Wednesday, starting at 7pm, going till whenever (will be there for Wayne if he can make it at 9 for sure). Chuck's Hop Shop on 85th

Around 7. How late would you be Wayne? Anyone else?
-
So who can make it to this one?
-
nice idea, but doesn't look like UBB supports it. UBB is pretty much dead IMO, we just need to get off it soon. We are waiting on new version to come out on another forum, and then we will likely move to it. In the meantime, we are just trying to be get ready for when that happens.

I think I mentioned it in the other thread, but: 1. Mountain biking 2. Hiking/trail running 3. Sailing 4. Road biking 5. Backpacking Thing i would love to do up have a learning curve and haven't made it into my learning curve/opportunity cost budget. In fact all of the above haven't really made it into my budget enough too. 6. surfing 7. kayaking 8. skiing of any type These are all outdoor activities. Some hobbies: Photography Painting (acrylic) Records (music) i'm really jack of all trades and master of nothing. same as you Nater, i'm pulled from one thing to the next.

Has to be Wednesday for me. But I would never stand in the way of people gathering on any day!

Thanks Sean. #1 has been one Jon and I have recognized for years . We are really just trying to get it right...moving to new forum software is a lot of work and we only want to do it once. Believe me, we can't wait to get off UBB and on to something more modern. We have some options, but really I think we just need to commit to one and go for it. #2 This is what I meant in my post above. We all need to work to make this place more inviting to new comers or just new posters. We need to work to make it a place that people want to post and interact with. Part of that really is on each one of you. You have to recognize when you're discouraging others from participating. There is no "insider club" here. But that perception is there because some people make it seem like that with how they interact with others. If you don't know someone, go out of your way to make them welcome! Thats part of why I want to do more pubclubs. To get people together and make them feel welcome here. Especially people who haven't participated to date...I'd love to hear from you. Your participation leads to new motivation, new friends, and new adventures, which is what I think draws most of us here. It doesn't matter if you're coming from, its where you are going. This site is about socializing, people need to stop farting and clearing the room with caustic and argumentative discussions. Stop attacking people asking questions, who are just trying to learn. Nobody wants that. There is always a place for criticism, but you don't need to show the Internet that you are the smartest guy in the room....how about being the nicest guy in the room and kindly providing and assistance to someone who is newer to the "sport" than you are. Invite that person to go out climbing with you if you know better than they do, and teach them. I learned to rock climb from people on this site, because they were kind enough to respond to my noob questions and followed it up with an invite to go climbing with them (or maybe I asked them, but bottom line was they were nice to me). Yeah, I'm still not a great climber now, but I'm a safe one...its on me for not being better by putting in more time. #3 There will always be competitors for your time. But I think all of them lack the uniqueness that this site offers. This site has a lot more character, and yes it does have warts too. But the goal Jon and I have always had is to keep it going and improve it as we can, while maintaining the uniqueness and some of the character. Unfortunately sometimes that progress gets slowed as this isn't our day job. Thanks Sean, we appreciate your feedback and hope you keep coming back. We'll try to keep the lights on.

Oh no! Not today. We are shooting for every other week and we did it last week. Next week fo sho! The Chucks on 85th is the one.

One thing everyone of you can do to make this better is to put a filter on everything you post. Keep in mind that the more people who post Trip Reports here, the better it can be. Make this an environment where people are not afraid to share. It doesn't mean taking all the fun out of being a part of CC.com...its more about being decent to one another. Its about not doing online what you wouldn't do in a crowded room of strangers. You DON'T have to be a great climber to post a trip report here. Heck, you don't even need to succeed. There have been some great TRs about failure. Sometimes just a picture or two about conditions in a particular area can be so valuable to the next guy. Everyone needs stoke, from the best climbers to those who are just starting out. Don't be afraid to be honest about your capabilities. You are not a terrible person because you struggle with 5.9 climbing. We are all at different points on our climbing experience. This site should be for everyone, not just the really good climbers. Yes, there are those TR connoisseurs who only think the best TRs should be posted, but don't count us who run the site as one of them. I love the super awe inspiring TRs put up by some of our users, but I also love hearing about someone just getting out and pushing themselves from where ever they are at.
