  1. That line deserves hella respect, the transition from a classic aid climb to all star free climb is due. Folks can still aid this, sans hammer. Best of luck on your climb!
  2. So the upper scection has "free climbing" bolts? That first pitch is mostly 11 with good rests, but that top...uff da!
  3. Washington state's official monster is the prime consumer of these rare animals.
  4. That thing is the sickest toy I have ever seen! So scary to go upside down for the first time...now, how do I stop this thing???
  5. CC is a inspiration to all of us... totally all about the woods.. the guy is a pioneer.
  6. I have spent some time with CC and I think he's...a mad scientist.
  7. I am a proud owner of the same orange ice axe as the guy on the left! My dad bought it at a garage sale for 5 bucks. The thing comes up to my navel, and I don't think the pick has any teeth. Anybody have the DL on this relic? I gave mine back to pop. He opens beers with it.
  8. word. I have worked in unions for 15 years...I have seen both sides of the coin, but all in all, the Labor unions in this country have kept the wage up, insured that qualified people are used, and created a system for safe working conditions. Like it or not, these guys, crooked or not, are all that's left to fight for decent working conditions. Right now, our esteemed el' presedente is trying to get rid of overtime. Do you really think YOUR boss would pay you OT if he did'nt have to?
  9. Yo, IATSE local 720 (LV) in the house. I'll say this, working union works for me. We work all over the place! good money, time off, way casual!
  10. "Godzilla" Blue Oyster Cult. Imagine yourself as said creature, terrorizing your living room, perhaps chasing the cat.
  11. +I got this one to cover up some old work...
  12. The method CBS described works great with a single set of cams. We used this system at Index, where the pitches are short. Use the new ultra light runnes and the whole thing is uberlight and fast! The amount of energy this system saved allowed us to venture into the harder grades. The only downer is you must learn to rack the slings to the inside. Not so good with huge racks, perfect for light and fast.
  13. Some friends said the crux was 5a/E1, but when my wife got to the anchors she said it was solid VIIb...
  14. Godzilla?...hard 18, easy 19...nice climbing, it is. The pitch above is good 20, right off the belay...
  15. Supertopo for half dome
  16. "Anyone who side slides on a board and shears off the new snow should be subjected to a hostile barrage of insults and profanity whenever they engage in such a practice" You are right, you are a skier at heart.
  17. ...and maybe you are still complaining about last week's drivel. get over it.
  18. The City of Rocks is one of the most friendly areas we have climbed at. Try and stock up with supplies before you go, as amenities are somewhat distant. Showers in the small town of Alamo, but a solar shower is such the luxury...

    take the test

how do I know I passed?
  20. Running Thin fingers out off the first belay, not stopping until the locker handjam in the crack...stupid.
  21. Let he without guilt cast the first stone... We all get in over our head sometimes,we just try not to lose our composure...back off, grab gear, run it out, S#!t your pants...the stuff of legend! In the end, epics are more memorable (and interesting). I have cried, wimpered and scrached my way up things, don't get me wrong, I just want to do it with style.
  22. This has nothing to do with judgement and everything to do with attitude. Have some backbone and do not complain, as life is good and you are free! Climbing history is full of people who were HARD, people with grit. Let's honor their spirit by keeping a firm upper lip.
  23. One of God's "special" creatures....
  24. Lummox pretty much summed up the whole thread into one blinding sentence of truth. Examples:Oh, I dont sport climb,... too many people. Bouldering? I prefer to climb "real" mountains. Trad is scary, so much crap! We prefer the gym, the ratings are more consistent inside.. Saying things like this still makes you out to be soft. We all love a complainer!
  25. Another cover up is based around people from places like Minnesota, New England and Washington bursting into flames after a day at the pool. The desert sun combined with $7.00 drinks and oh-so-much exposed skin has been linked to a number of fatal sunburns. Local hospitals are bracing for another spring break of terror. "These kids come down here from Vermont and end up like the nazis in Raiders of the lost ark " said Mayor Oscar Goodman in a recent press comfrence." A program of pre-tanning is reccomended for people who have not seen the sun in more than 5 months" Goodman added, replying to reporters questions about the shortages of "paba 70" sunscreen at local drugstores. " These people start to like the rain... can you believe it? " Goodman said with a shudder.
