  2. Peter, I'm not sure what you mean... My morning meds are kicking in, so I have good posts and bad posts... L.Granite PS,If it's about my costume trunk, yes.. I own many historical climbing outfits.
  3. "I remember the summer of '76... those tall ships really boosted the nation's spirits..."
  4. Boomerrang! Wich was better: JP Patches ...(Dr. Jizzle Pizzle himself) or- Boomerang ...(Norbert and co.) Word up to 1970's locally produced childern's programming!
  5. I'm dressing up like John Muir right now...
  6. Sad that the water projects that allowed for the real expansion of the west came at such a cost to the land. Water is our most valuable resourse. Lake Mead is like 50 FEET low right now. So much for buying a sailboat...
  7. Has anyone climbed in this controversial valley? The Hetch Hetchy valley lies inside Yosemite NP, but was flooded in the early part of the century for San Francisco's drinking water. Galen Rowell wrote of climbing Wapama rock, in 1969. this is the only account of climbing I have found so far... It's wild that there is another Yosemite valley, with climbs that would fit right in next to the famous cousins to the north. one that was filled with virgin meadows of flowers 3 feet tall and waterfalls that were equal of Vernal falls. John Muir fought the construction of the dam up to the time of his death. The dam was built the same year. Activists have been fighting the dam ever since.
  8. Having a calm and relaxed mind is the real challenge of climbing for me. Why do we put ourselves up to this stuff? I climb cuz it's the safest way for me to channel stress. I can't help but hate the slow decline of all that is good in the world. I climb to let my hands touch the planet... In return, the earth blesses our passage. American Bottom line: Happiness is worth at least 2 letter grades. Humility is worth 2 number grades! A 5.14 Human Being is the strongest climber.
  9. As my post suggests, anything in the shade can be very cold. Wind really is the party pooper here. A down coat and a pair of shorts, mittens and sunscreen. Red Rocks is intimidating at first, but once you feel at home... it's game on! Der Nordwands: Cloud Tower ...6 hrs of sun Rainbow wall Black Velvet Wall Dark Shadows area Anything east facing after 1:00 PM Good winter bets: Black Orphius ...warm,cold,warm Olive Oil ... crowded Windy peak ... uncrowded Levitation 29 area ...windy Chicken lips ... link with SS or BO for 17 pitch 5.10 Resolution arete... (shoot for 6 hrs on route) Birdlands..."new" Cat in the hat area... crowded Solar slab area ...crowded, but passable Or just go bouldering...
  10. Good south facing climbing in the canyons and the Calico hills are going off! The nordwands are very cold right now. Why people would want to climb Epinephrine in the winter is beyond me. It's 0700, our hearty team approachs the base... The sun has slipped behind Wiskey pk. and the tempature dropped 10 degrees. Our brave crew stops, this must be it... heads craned back, bowels relieved. The book comes out, the line is clear. Too late to back out, only one question remains, The rope gets flaked out, Either you are a mover or a shaker, 300 feet of frozen chimneys... "ahh..care to block lead?... I'll trail the pack."
  11. We'll leave the lights on for you...
  12. Reading the fitness thread made me a little sad, We do love our home state. My wife and I are both Washington natives who have moved to Nevada. Regular folks can make an good day's wage here, there is world class rock climbing 5 minutes from our house and 24 hour anything-you-want. Having said that,I would like to invite you to come and enjoy Las Vegas... The sun is out and we are going cragging at 1:30 today... Just an afternoon session. You are welcome to come along...we'll bring the hot chocolate! Red Rock weather
  13. People bag on Las Vegas all the time..."I could never live there!" blah blah blah. The fact is, This town is full of folks from Washington. While YOU grow mold, WE are getting a tan. Have a nice winter, L. Granite
  14. All things in moderation...
  15. My wife and I are on a cardio based training for better climbing fitness. We figure that we benifit the most from 2-3 days of either hiking or mtn biking a week. balanced with 2-3 days of climbing. Outside(Red Rocks) or inside(after work). The best is to go biking at Blue Diamond in the morning, have a nice lunch and then go sport climbing in the Calico hills. winter days in vegas can be cold (50!) so we make sure to have plenty of cocca and treats.
  16. Does this mean I have to start wearing pants now? If so I'll take an early retirement.

    I love USA

Ashcroft stayed across the hall from me during the Olympics. We would chat in the concierge lounge over hor' duerves and coffee. John- Evil empire puppet master, football fan. Me- Wearing sweatshirt from high school, likes "Snoop dog" Nice fella, Satan is.
  18. My buddy "O" broke his arm in the preseason. He got the cast that goes past the elbow. We would ace bandage his arm to his side every day. When he rode, his broken arm bounced along as if he were shaking hands. Some bigger mittens and liners made the outfit complete.

  21. What is your best Beckey moment? From where I sit, most of you have at least one story...
  22. I don't even know what all of that is about, but it's worth it just to hear Trask call someone a "doofus" Still laughing, L. Granite
  23. Ha! I remember the filming of that movie! I grew up in Arlington. That was big news when you are 8 years old... Somehow I remember them flying out a frozen climber with a helicopter...has anybody seen this lost classic?
