We might need a government program to stop the flood of the toxic and defective products from China. The story reports that defective condoms were provided from China to the health department. Interesting. If I did that, wouldn't that be a crime called fraud? But it's OK if...

The point made by Fein is that proof of wrong doing is not and should not be a prerequisite to impeachment: Faced with compelling evidence or public outrage, it's up to the House to consider the evidence, and then hand it over to the Senate for trial in the case where proof is determined substantial. This is the process of impeachment, the process by which the power of the presidency is kept in check by The People. I believe the assertion that anybody in the presidency has actually admitted to "ILLEGAL" activity is simply not true. On the contrary, the presidency has repeatedly and consistently asserted it was LEGAL for it to perform the actions in question. And this is the reason for impeachment -- for Congress to conduct oversight to determine if the law was broken and the Constitution violated, as many believe to be the case. In my opinion, the question is whether or not the presidency is above the laws. Gonzales said it is. You and I may have a different answer, but what the American people need and deserve now is an not answer from you or me, but from Congress. And the means provided by the Constitution for Congress to produce this answer is called IMPEACHMENT. I happen to concur with Reagan's former deputy attorney general: For Congress to refuse impeachment now is for Congress to refuse the Constitution.

Bruce Fein, former deputy attorney general under Reagan, says Congress must start impeachment inquiry: "Carts Before Horses -- Impeachment inquiry first, ask questions later."

On the bright side, as innocuous as the arrest of a yet another Republican sex pervert may be, the prevalence of such a story ensures we have not yet started bombing Iran. Also, for whatever it's worth, the Senator Craig scandal got considerable attention from not just the mainstream medium, but also from liberal pundits heard on Air America and read elsewhere. For better or worse, political sex stories seem to always get a lot of attention in this country, and I think it not a result of media bias distorting what's really important out there, but a result of the ongoing distress in the American psyche when it comes to sex in general and homosexuality in particular. The implications are amplified for Republican politicians who are gay, because they at once condemn themselves, as part of their suppression and as compelled by their twisted political agenda, and then act out in the strangest ways -- such as by hiding with the toilet biscuits and peeping through the stall doors in public restrooms as a way to court sex. Now, about preparations to bomb Iran... that's a more important story that's been going on, although maybe not visible on the radar screen presented by the MSM. You tell me.

Useful information, but how does it support the allegation that the defendants in the medical malpractice suits were innocent or that Edwards is a predatory lending baron? More: Edwards Talks Tough on Hedge Funds (NYT blog reports in July that Edwards has "the bulk of his financial assets" invested in Fortress hedge fund) John Edwards 2008: What's not to like (more on hedge fund involvement, and lots of other slimey shit.) John Edwards Accidentally Made Millions from Katrina Victim Abusing Subprime Lenders (cites WSJ...)

I'll take March 6, 2008. Justice Dept. Investigating Gonzales's Testimony

Atually, I'd be inclined to think it your own commuter vehicle of choice. By the way, any links to credible sources regarding the hedge fund or trial lawyer scandals you speak of would be appreciated. So far, from where I'm sitting, Google is not your friend in this regard.

Is it true that Mexican Coke is made with sucrose rather than the high fructose corn syrup that most sugary soft drinks are sweetened with here?

It may surprise no one that there was a day when I'd never think about expressing praise for John Ashcroft. But my mind is changed now, and I've something different to say. Today I say Ashcroft deserves a Medal of Freedom award for when he was hospitalized but still mustered the strength to tell Gonzales to go fuck himself. Damn near in a coma, yet approached by Gonzales to sign off on the latest conspiracy by the Bush Crime Family, Ashcroft refused. Now, while it's true the recent Senate hearings revealed that FBI agents were on the scene that day as specifically ordered to protect Ashcroft from manipulation by Gonzales, I still say Ashcroft deserves recognition for taking a stand for the Constitution instead of for the Boss. For me, there's a big difference between political differences and organized, political crimes. I've only pity and scorn for those here who apparently cannot see that difference, yet I'd gladly shake the hand of John Ashcroft any day. There, I said it. My comments were not related to Gonzales' supposed 'crimes', but to the very topic you addressed above. The fact that you, and those like you were part of the posse that drove Ashcroft from office (read his book) make you partly responsible for the subsequent outcome. "Careful what you wish for" comes to mind. And you and Matt still haven't answered my question about who the next pinata will be. Yeah, but Ashcroft was a CHRISTIAN. The horror! He HAD to go! OK, OK! So I probably wouldn't want to shake hands with the guy -- somebody whose world-view hinges around obsessive control of women and fantasies of Noah's arc saving all the animals 6000 years ago is probably somebody who would give me the creeps.

Rope is always questionable, with variables such as previous use history of the rope, type of rope, fall factor involved with the lynching, etc. This question will require much research, but with all the "pinatas" now available there might be opportunity to establish conclusive findings. I say go for it. Cheers.
