To answer a few PM q's - The CM ice axe is pretty stout. Not a light-and-fast tool, which is why I am parting with it. I bough the ice tools used last year. The guy I bought them from had just purchased one tool and hadn't used it yet. The ice tools are in differing shapes. The adze tool is missing a small patch of rubber. The shaft itself is in good shape. The hammer is virtually brand new. The pick on the hammer has seen very little use, the adze tool has seen a bit. The included Alaska pics are in ok shape. I'm selling the tools because I just purchased a new set of Grivel Tech Wings. FYI - there are currently 5 people interested in the tools.

He elbowed me in the chest the last time I saw him...without provocation. I think I got a bruise. Bwahahahaha!!!!! Mike's good people, man. I think that the internet has led to a loss of understanding of the true meaning of words. People sit, completely anonymous, and spew shit, call names, and posture without thought to what they are really saying and how it is heard. When debates, such as the ones that crop up here, were had in past days individuals were more measured with their words becuase their opponent was right in front of them and they could see the reactions to what they said. It doesn't seem to be that way anymore. Say what you intend to say. If you intend to threaten Gotterdamerung, or Robbob, or Caveman, or me for that matter, understand that it will be taken as you say it. Understand the measure of your words. Greg_W That's pretty much what I figgered, but I thought I'd ask. I've never found any reson to threaten anyone. What needs to be done will be done. You don't have to explain it. Somehow I think GD's new character will be easy to spot.

Somebody needs a visit from the fatty blunt fairy. Are you this violent and confrontational in person, or is this just some internet schtick? Wait, wait. I want to be there when you find out. Tickets $5 a pop. Too bad it would last about 1.2 seconds. Now kids, I'm not starting a fight. I've never met a person that I had a reason to fight. Just a question. Chiznill people Besides, I know Judo. Judo know if I got a knife, Judo know if I got a gun, Judo know if I'm gonna run like a bitch. Whatchugot?

Actually cold air has more oxygen. Where is CBS when you need him? Ice screw an picket each. You will (probably) only use these for a rescue. Plastic boots are great, but I have climbed in leathers. If you use leathers, I would recommend crampons with a strap-on binding. It's almost impossible to drop a crampon with full straps. No need for a second tool or a hammer. With the questions that you are asking, you don't sound like a very experienced climber, so I would recommend a 50m rope. Check out Freedom of the Hills and learn the Kiwi Coil if only two of you are going. The extra length will make crevasse rescue easier and more straightforward for new climbers. As DPS said, take pulleys and prusiks, and know how to use them. Some of the snowbridges will be great, others will be very sketchy. Last year the route was very trenched. I would imagine that a trench is typical this late in the season. RMI does standard guiding through September, so the route should be well marked. One more thing - i recommend that you camp at Ingraham Flats instead of Muir. It's a little quieter and less windy. You also cut about an hour off your summit day. The only drawback is the absence of a shitter.

looking for a quality online gear reviews site
fenderfour replied to chirp's topic in The Gear Critic
Try outsideonline.com and gearreview.com Maybe they are all paid off. I dunno. -
I just thought it was funny. I think that so long as the same areas of the body are utilized, results will be pretty similar. As for a wife, a whiny non-climbing boyfriend might work out. I don't know where to find one of those, sorry.

Shit, I always thought it was Ver-let Besides that, I always hear SHUS-kan

From tradgirl.com: From: Pedro Espina To find out if ice climbing is for you, 1. Ask, read, and loose as much sleep as possible wondering what style of ice gear is right for you. 2. Bring you VISA card to your closest climbing store and spend all of next year's disposable income on equipment that somebody in rec.climbing recommended based on hearsay. 3. Hide the gear at home and try to control the fear that the thought of "your wife finding out that you just spend $3K that you didn't have" will bring to your heart. 4. Using a 10 lbs. frozen sea bass, smash the backside your fingers until you can't hold the frozen carcass any longer. 5. In front of an open refrigerator, strip to your underwear, place 10 or 12 ice cubes around your testicles, poor a gallon of cold water over your head, and repeat "Man... This is f*cking great!". 6. Tie yourself to a massive object just under the balconies of your local retirement home, display a sign that reads "Safe my future... Reduce Social Security benefits now!", and try to survive the barrage of large hurling objects coming your way. 7. Ask your neighbor to tie his Rottweiler with a shoelace at the other side of a 4 foot fence. Smack the dog a couple of times and repeat "If the string breaks, the fence will hold him back... the fence will hold... the fence will hold..." 8. Call-in thick Friday morning. Jump in the car with a couple of guy with questionable personal hygiene and drive for 13 hours strait. Get our of the car, realize that there is no ice to be climbed and return home feeling still exited about the prospects for ice climbing the next weekend. 9. Find out, from your new friends, that half of the gear that you bought in step #2 is really worthless and that "...only 'Posers' buy that stuff". and finally, 10. Over a romantic dinner, tell your wife that she will be on-her-own for Thanksgiving, X-mas, New Year's, Martin Luther King Day, and Presidents' Day, because you will be driving "up-north" with "the guys". If you can satisfy the requirements stated above, ice climbing may be for you. In that case see http://www.erols.com/espina/Climbing/ for some inspiration.

I come from a place where whupass is still dealt out with fists and elbows.

It's nice to assume that all conservatives are bible-thumpers. I will now assume that all liberals are animal sacrificing satanists.
-
Just an observation - Conservatives are more likely to think about a point that they disagree with than liberals are. I really mean think about it, not just wait for you to finish so that they can call Bush an asshole. I would expect the opposite. Where did I get my info? Friends, strangers trying to get me to support their cause, and people on this board. Especially the people on this board. You are all close-minded fucks. But you are liberal close-minded fucks.
-
Don't worry CBS, the police, the government, Nabisco, and Martha Stewart really are out to get you.
-
OR gloves gone I will take $100 for the set of ice tools - pic in the "For Sale" gallery Buy something. Help me pay for the new ice tools that are on their way.

I haven't heard of any real violence. Do you have a story handy?

dipshits I was listening to NPR as I navigated my way through traffic this morning, and they were talking to some of the protesters in NYC. They were your typical protesting assholes, probably some of the same folks that caused such a ruckus in Seatlle for the WTO. They were trying to demonstrate in the streets and impede traffic. For this, they were arrested. One protester commented that they had a right to be heard, and that they shouldn't be arrested. Yes, you have a right to be heard. You do not have a right to impede access to others. I don't care if you have a flashy name like the Green Block or The Anti-War Action Committee, I don't care if you are Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian. Shit, I don't care if you are Zooastrian. You don't have the right to infringe on other people's rights. Before any of you can say it, let me throw it out there - "But the Bush and Asscroft can with the anti-terrorist laws?" Let me finish that arguement early by cutting to the last few lines: "Bush is an ass" "Kerry is a pussy" "you're dumb" "no you're dumb" -thanks
