  1. I don't get it. I was thinking of buying the annual pass at REI, but I didn't know what the benefits were. So it's basically a parking permit?

    Cool Website!

Discoveries of new protein kinases makes Kiwi go... 'Irrational exuberance' has to be one of those quotes that goes down in history.

Okay... Whatever gets you your jollies... I like biochemistry publications myself.
  4. I think so. I thought his name was klank.
  5. I don't think I caught the names of most of the people I talked to. I remember MattP, AlpineK, thatguy, Distel, Dave, and TLG. Sorry, but... - Who's the one with the green Welsh sweater? I've talked to you twice now, and I still can't remember your name. You're an engineer. - Who's the one that cooked those really cook steak (with potatoes). You also had one of my hot links. I remember you saying that you're a moderator. You indicated that you might be interested in taking me up to Glacier Peak.
  6. Continuing my indoor rock climbing lessons at the Vertical World in Redmond. More gear shopping. I was hoping to do some hiking on sunday, but the weather has much suck.
  7. I find alot of chalked up holds get greasy due to the accumulation of chalk and sweat.
  8. Must say, I was surprised at the age range of cc.comers.
  9. Really? I thought there was a trailing 'e'. Edit: Ahh... I see. Scheiss = shit Scheisse = shits (pl)
  10. I-90 to Ohio!?!?! Scheise!
  11. Maybe cuz Clinton violated a real concrete law, whereas Bush didn't. I don't think it's an issue of which is worse than the other, but which can be pursued by the law. (I'm not defending Bush)

    Who owns REI? Satan?

I might be able to get some weekdays off. Looking forward to climbing.
  13. I'm American.
  14. But isn't Kosovo UN-backed? Whereas Iraq was a rogue attack.
  15. I've been thinking about this alot recently, and I tend to agree.
  16. Are those population figures of individuals who voted? Otherwise, they're meaningless. And area of land is totally meaningless. Big whoop if Bush won Montana with its population of three.
  17. Indeed, it is a vicious cycle...
  18. Like I said, I speed to get away from the other cars. I guess I don't like being crowded. As I said before, traffic density it quantitative. So I weave through dense slow traffic to get into one of those 'dead zones' in between the traffic packets to where there are no cars. Then I cruise at my own pace and regain my serenity. I drive slowly on an empty road because I enjoy driving and there is no rush. In heavy traffic, I'm getting tail gated or slowed down left and right. Tense. Here's a pictoral diagram:
  19. It's not about speeding to arrive somewhere faster, or being mad that someone's making you late. It's about a relaxed state of mind. Being held up by slow drivers or bikers destroys my serenity and provides me discomfort. Oh, btw, if I was on an empty road of freeway, I'd cruise 10 mph below the limit. I only speed in traffic to get away from the other cars.
  20. The 'heavy traffic' comment was to explain why passing was impossible.
  21. Yeah, that's it. It's pretty black-and-white when you are holding up five or more cars.
  22. No doubt, but it's still inconsiderate of you to hold people up. It's not about being impatient either.

    Size matters?

The guy at the Redmond REI tried selling me this: Looks kinda bulky with the front pockets. (4,300 cu in)
  24. Wrong 'morally'. It's just plain inconsiderate.
  25. Argh! Don't get me started. The left lane is reserved for cars that are passing (or driving fast). I see cars hold up other drivers all the time. Sure, these cars could always pass them using the right lane, but they shouldn't. Car poolers who hog up the HOV lane piss me off too. One should always leave room for drivers behind them to pass. Drivers who drive side by side next to another car are so inconsiderate. I see it in traffic all the time. Traffic density is not gradual, but quantitative. You can see it clearly. You see packets of traffic helld up by three or more cars driving side by side at the same speed. No one behind them can pass. There is usually a quarter mile or 10 car lengths between each traffic quanta.
