    BUSTED!

Wait a minute..... how did a 14 year old girl get a job as an under-cover sheriff detective? Makes you wonder
  2. Wow. That is just the epitome of gay. Cluck - you forgot to schedule time for "smoking pole." Whatever, you're all just jealous. I have friends, I swear! They care about my calendar, DAMNITTTT!!!!
  3. Thanks for the Airset tip, Trek. That definitely looks like it's worth checking out.... assuming I can get my buds go sign up as well. One good thing about hijacked CC.com thread is that my friends can link to the Calendar directly to a URL.
  4. OK - most CC.commers could care less what I'm climbing this year, but hopefully this calendar will help some of my friends schedule their summers for maximum climb time. -Scott APRIL [01-02] • (Sat) Reach The Summit training hike at Tilly Jane • (Sun) free [08-09] • (Sat) Nike Gumby snow day, Eric travelling • (Sun) Race for the Roses - details, Eric travelling [15-16] • (Sat) free Smith Rock with Dickson?, Eric travelling • (Sun) free Eric travelling [22-23] • (Sat) PMR Field Training, Eric travelling • (Sun) free , Eric travelling [29-30] • (Sat) free , Eric travelling • (Sun) free , Eric travelling MAY [06-07] • (Sat) Scott on call for work, Eric travelling • (Sun) Scott on call for work [13-14] • (Sat) free • (Sun) free [20-21] • (Fri) Mount Shasta • (Sat) Mount Shasta • (Sun) Mount Shasta Reach the Summit training hike at Nesmith Point [27-28] • (Sat) free Smith Rock w/ Gaper T? • (Sun) free Climbing, Skiing, Rock Concerts? • (Monday - Memorial Day!) free JUNE [03-04] • (Sat) free • (Sun) Wicked Urban Adventure Race - details • (Sun) CROC Orienteering Meet at Camas Washington details [10-11] • (Sat) Blue Lake Sprint Triathlon - details • (Sun) Blue Lake Olympic Triathlon - details [17-18] • (Sat) Smiffy • (Sun) Team Extreme reunion tour [24-25] • (Sat) free • (Sun) free JULY [01-02] • (Sat) free • (Sun) free • (Mon) free • (Tues - 4th of July!) free [08-09] • (Sat) Scott and Lyneen in Denver • (Sun) Scott and Lyneen in Denver [15-16] • (Sat) Mount Shuksan - Fischer Chimneys, Eric travelling • (Sun) Fisher Chimneys, Eric travelling [22-23] • (Sat) free Eric travelling • (Sun) free Eric travelling [29-30] • (Sat) Mount Jefferson • (Sun) South Ridge or Jeff Park Glacier? 5. Welcome back! I knew Cali couldn't handle the gapeness
  6. Sounds like a sweet gig. I'm marking my calendar! GT - you back for good or what?
  7. I've got lots of ideas bouncing around in my head... Tours: Circumnav Cooper Spur to Govy T-line to Illumination Saddle to Ramona Falls TH Turns: Paradise Park (west of Zig Zag canyon) Cooper Spur above tree line looks great but the price of admission is 4 miles of skinning There's lots of stuff east of Meadows that I'm less familiar with I'm trying to decide on a destination myself. Weather and avy forecast are definitely favorable!
  8. Quick reminder: even if the bolts have chains on them, you should still use quickdraws for your toprope anchor. Top-roping (and especially lowering) with your rope through through the chain wears it down faster. For maximum style points you want to do all your top-roping wear on your own gear, then the last climber removes your quickdraws, threads the rope through the chains, and then rappels (not gets lowered) down. Oh yeah, quickdraws as TR anchors seem to be the norm, but you can always substitute locking biners & short slings instead if that makes you feel better.
  9. How does pulling plastic 24 inches above a pad prepare you for trad leading 100 feet off the deck? Seems to me that slow laps on longer routes would build up endurance better than short spurts on bouldering problems.
  10. I climbed a few routes there over the summer - pretty good basalt stuff - similar to Broughton or Carver Bridge. Park on the East side of the highway at near the end of the landslide barrier a short ways south of the Cooper Spur turnoff. There's a spot where the old highway splits off from the new highway for a few hundred yards. From there, follow the trail up the hill. I hear there is top-roping on the south end of the cliff and we found good trad leads in the main area. We looked at stuff ranging from 5.6 to 5.9 but I'm sure you can find harder routes.
  11. GIT R DONE Why do rednecks think this is so clever?
  12. NICE Jon - thanks for all the hard work!
  13. I had a State Farm renters insurance policy a while back. I had a certain "coverage limit" that covered theft of any of my belongings (climbing or otherwise). However, I didn't get into the details about which kinds of theft would be covered (stolen from apartment vs stolen from car vs stolen from campsite, etc). If you're planning on filing claims often, be sure to set a low deductible. Insurance isn't too helpful if you lose $600 in gear but have a $500 deductible.
  14. I thought the extreme temperature fluctuation in astro-dude was interesting. Perhaps a theory worthy of further research, but hardly compelling science. It was a cool video trip report though.
  15. Maybe you should start a new "Photo Contest Judges Wanted" thread. I bet it would get some fresh traffic.
  16. You should be able to find a bunch of photos on Summitpost. My climbing partner and I maintain the Little T page and there are some good pics of that named feature for sure.
  17. corvallis.... assume you have to kidding right? It has been monsoon and the mountain is getting dumps of fresh snow daily... think on the Timberline telemetry that they have gotten almost 1.5' in the last 24 hours. Just going to have to find something else to do and hope for a weather window or get out the boards for some entertainment until climbing makes sense.
  18. Precicely! It's just that simple.
  19. I recently took the WMI/NOLS WFR course and thought it was top notch (note WMI is different than WMA). The curriculum was very practical and seemed slightly geared toward camp counselors or wilderness group leaders. Like Iain said, they did teach us some things that we're really not allowed to do without standing orders from a physician. For example, we were trained how to reduce dislocations but told it was outside of the scope of practice for a WFR.
  20. A friend of mine reported on Friday that Mist Falls was in (WI 2/3). And the ice looked really nice to me. I chose to set up on the left side of the curtain to avoid most of the spray & wind and to be out of the line of fire of any icefall. Turns out I didn't go far enough left. In retrospect - the right side of the ampetheater would be much safer from icefall, but you'd get pretty soaked from the waterfall. Of course, that depends entirely on what the wind is doing.
  21. Thanks for your help, Kevin! You're right - the pooch was an unwelcome hassle and I'm well aware of the "dogs & ice climbing" debate. My intention was to tie her to the tree by our packs but somehow that slipped my mind in the excitement of finally finding some good ice. Fortunately we escaped with only a few cuts & bruises, wounded pride, and lessons learned.
  22. Gorge Ice Update for 12/17: Ice is thin most places but there is some to be had. Shepard's Dell? Mist Falls: Mist falls is nice and thick. Unfortunately the wife and I got nailed by a pretty big icefall while setting up and sustained some minor injuries. Thanks are in order to some good samaritans for helping us get back down to the car. After a quick trip to the ER for a few stitches, we are both nursing our wounds over a few beers. [edit] Better conditions updates on the Ice Climbing Forum
  23. Shit - thanks for bumping this back to the top! I needed a good laugh. Now lets debate the ethics of the style which I employed during my climb out of bed this morning. For what it's worth - I value the pointless but extremely entertaining TRs just as much as I value the seriously impressive ones. Happy Holidays!
  24. Cool - sounds like you did the East Ridge?
