I've skied the lifts on touring gear, that is, T3s with 3pin bindings on metal-edged touring skis, and on groomed snow you can get down a lot. You won't be able to go near as fast as on 'real' alpine gear, but you'll have fun, and that's the point, right?

I agree...I've started mt biking alot lately, and it has improved my desire to get out and rock climb. Plus it's fun and good for the lungs. Second that. When I get tired of rock I climb ice or ski. When I'm sick of ice or skiing I go climb some rock. Now when I don't get to do anything...that's a problem.
