Amber is about as good as it gets for me. Though in really bad flat-light conditions or white outs, my depth perception sucks no matter what and my gapersteez reaches its zenith. When the light is super flat, trees are better than any googles.

New Year's Eve camping in Commonwealth Basin

Never been to commonwealth basin... how long is the approach? -
IM RICH BEYTOCH. I'm just here for the hookers and blow. But with the huge profits from selling out, I am going to buy a herd of TaunTauns and finalize my life long dream of doing the F.W.T.A. (First Winter TaunTaun Asscent) and the F.W.T.D. (First Winter TaunTaun Descent) of the Three Sisters. If I can possibly secure here services, I plan on hiring Suzy Stormtrooper to be my guide 8D

Folks- I realize there are (literally) hundreds of people using the forum and this site for information regarding this tragic accident, but cluttering up the thread (further) with transcripts and things like that will only make gathering info that much more difficult. 'Normal' forum etiquette is to post a link to a news source and viewers can then decide to click on it or not. For those just tuning in. Please read the entire thread before posting It is very likely that any question you have might have been answered in the prior fifty pages. Use the 'Search' Function Use the site's search function to find additional information about Mt. Hood, routes, pictures etc. We even have a Trip Report database of prior ascents of numerous routes on Mt. Hood Trip Report Link: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/tripreports/ search for Location: HOOD and OREGON as the region. Respect Eachother, and don't get offended by 'spray' This site has been around for over 6 years and there is alot of history, and definatley some interesting personalities. Remember this is an Internet forum so don't take something someone says so personally. Many of the long-time posters have a wealth of knowledge about climbing (as you can see from this thread) and have/will try to answer questions. Moderating As mattp said... all the moderators and the admins on this site are volunteers. We don't moderate much content here, but in instances like 'rescues' we do moderate posts that may be offensive to friends and families of those involved. If this bothers you, remember that nobody is forcing you to be here on the site Where to Post? There are numerous forums on the site here that may suit your question better than posting on this thread. There is a forum dedicated to 'Newbies' for those looking for general climbing information. We also have a forum called 'spray' where you can pretty much post anything you would like to. All that being said, I'm glad this forum can help with information, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families.

My .02: The term blog is almost 10 years old, and really is *not* what this site is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog BBS or a Forum is a place where threaded user-driven discussion goes on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bbs Some may even contend that cc.com is a Social Network! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_network#Internet_social_networks I personally, think cascadeclimbers.com transcends these constructs and has established its own niche as an online 'lifestyle'. discus.

These graphs are from NWAC data at Timberline. Magic Mile wind gauges appear to be frozen. You can use the little << arrows to look back to prior hour data sets too. well, that didn't feel like 16 inches. hmm that sounds kind of, well anyway, had some epic turns off the cone, but was able to blow through to the bullet-proof rain layer below this storm's dump. still, good turns. no complaints here.

Time to freshen up the Events forum a bit. So whats new? You can now make new posts here And you can add them to 'the calendar' oooohhhhhh Still lets keep a few things in mind. Feel free to start a thread like "Lets have a pube club" and you can debate all day long on when/where to have it. But when the location and date has been decided... or if you don't have to publicly discuss the details of your event, follow these easy steezey steps to post your event to the calendar: 1- Draft up your catchy post that will make lurkers and sparyers alike leave the anonimity of their keyboards and actually head out into public. 2- Down at the bottom of your new post, check the box that says 'List as an event in the calendar on' and choose the proper date bits, like so: 3- Remember to double check that you have times, directions, and fancy fliers attached to your post too! Your calendar item will now be prominently displayed on our homepage, and if you'd like more exposure, drop me a PT and we'll work something out. -timmy
