just as a follow up to erik's point, not getting into the muffy/erik war of words...i had a sharp reminder this summer to pay attention to the little things. i had grown rather comfortable and casual and let the habit of checking his knot, harness etc everytime slide. well one time he didn't tie such a good knot and it came untied. fortunately no harm done. but it was HUGELY irresponsible of me and i'll never do that again. i may not make a scene out of it but i always give my partners the eye now. ALWAYS. CHECK THE BASIC SHIT....ALWAYS!

a few years ago i was living in apartment building. i was in the shower when the fire alarm went off building was filled with smoke. all i had time to grab was my comforter to wrap around me (where was my bathrobe ) and my kid's hand. i stood in the parking lot for 45 minutes like that. the good news it turned out to be nothing but a lot of smoke. very scary though!

that's not a big deal...just wash the pillowcases when you get up in the morning

a friend of mine broke her elbow falling of her horse. her husband was furious b/c he had asked her countless times to give up such a risky sport. shortly after her accident he broke his elbow walking into the kitchen from the living room. i guess he better give up getting his own coffee from the kitchen in other words shite happens. some of us choose risky passtimes to fill our lives others of us sit on the couch and develop coronary artery blockages. something's gonna get ya sooner or later.

i hope no one thinks robbob was chestbeating. i started the thread to acknowledge a big accomplishment. there is always someone who has done something better or faster or longer. that doesn't change the fact that putting in the months and miles of training and stepping up to the starting line and then finishing a marathon is a big accomplishment. i was trying to acknowledge and congratulate robbob on working hard and achieving a goal. around here we post "pats on the back" for people doing their first leads. certainly harder routes have been climbed than anyone's first lead. it's just a form of acknowledgement. why not acknowledge another type of achievement. spray doesn't have to be negative does it?

The Rock is an actor and WWE wrestler. His world is all about shameless self promotion and the almighty dollar. If ya'll feel it's okay for a new generation of kids to view climbing in the same light, then fine. This is what leads to sports becoming about vanity and empty consumerism. Look at the snowboarding scene - the latest and greatest gear is more of a priority to kids than the actual sport. I have nothing against Tori - she sounds like a great girl and very well adjusted; good for her to take advantage of these opportunities. However I don't have to like what these opportunities, that only a few individuals benefit from, are doing to climbing. BTW: there are outdoor Barbies now. what's that? snow bunny barbie?

No, the cc.com community is outraged because they feel the Tori Allen doll is not an accurate representation of the women climbers they are familiar with due to the lack of slobber whistle head action and a nasty PM to trask accessory kit. that is just totally unnecessary! save it for spray at least

i couldn't agree more with this statement. you'll know what's right for your family when the time comes. it's very personal and your circumstances are different from everyone else's.
