  1. We're seeing a new aggro E-Rock. What's the matter? Not getting on the rock? SO not putting out?
  2. For types of climbs I do, hexes allow me to get by with only one set of a cams instead of two. As the climbing gets harder and steeper, no question, you don't want to be spending time fiddling with hexes.
  3. Be my guest.
  4. Before reading your post I was imagining that you had invented a pole-mounted device for placing cams. It would have a string for retracting the lobes. You'd use a pair of binoculars to make sure you had a good placement, etc. Here's an opportunity for a clever guy like Bill_Simpkins to patent another new invention.
  5. The Supreme Court decision gives new meaning to the expression "Pyrrhic Victory".
  6. Bug! Long time no see!
  7. Toast, I believe that Motherland is at Overhaul Wall.
  8. Tell someone you climb rocks for fun and they look at you funny because you take such terrible risks. You tell them that you spent a long apprenticeship practicing and learning about safety and how to use equipment properly. Now tell someone you own a gun. Are they going to look at you funny? Not at all. Gun safety takes the same sort of sober vigilance as climbing, but apparently not everyone looks at it that way.
  9. Oh, I thought it was the one about the four year old boy who accidentally walked behind a paper target while wearing camouflage pants and got shot by his father. I was wrong.
  10. Breathtakingly Orwellian, isn't it?
  11. If you are into tricams, then that completely changes the equation. I'd say yes, you could do fine without hexes if you carried tricams. Like hexes, they sometimes work better than cams would and are light for their size. On the other hand, as Selkirk mentioned, in places with inward flaring cracks, nothing works better than hexes.
  12. I suppose it would be a mistake if you were only going to climb at Smith, but I still like them for alpine climbing.
  13. I remember several years ago there was a fellow who came to Seattle for a meeting. He went to Mt. Rainier for a hike. It was spring, if I remember correctly. He was never seen again. They figure he got off trail in the snow, became exhausted and died of exposure.
  14. Well, it looks more featured than Fee Demo Wall, but not by much.
  15. You are very observant. Sure looks like it.

    EXTREME

At least they have a bonafide reason to rappel, that is, to enter a cave. Up at Erie yesterday, I saw a bunch show up just to rap the cliff. That's what happens when you make the anchors too accessible. I wonder if anyone has ever actually had to wait to get on a climb while someone rappelled it for the hell of it? It hasn't happened to me, but if this "sport" keep growing, I imagine there will eventually be conflicts.
  17. Get your better half to do it, preferably with the car in park.

  19. Mods move this to Eastern Washington Forum, please.
  20. I've climbed it on a hot day and I have climbed it in the rain. In the rain it get's really slick but you don't get as thirsty as when it is hot and sunburn isn't as much of a problem.
  21. The two stood together on the summit on this day in 1953 and that is all that matters.
  22. Can I ask if it has any trad lines on it? Is it protectable with gear?
  23. I think it is fitting that the first helicopter to land on top of the world is named after a snafflehound.
  24. Nowadays, they refer you to private outfits (if they exist) if you just run out of gas. If you are a member, a la AAA for cars, they bring you gas for free. If not, you pay a hefty fee. The Coast Guard will rescue you only if you are in immediate peril.
