I am struck but just how different this country is compared to the last unpopular war, Viet Nam. The Government didn't have the same Orwellian mind control powers that it now enjoys.

Blame China for the falling dollar. They are getting all our dollars but have fixed their currency at a fixed exchange rate. They have to get rid of dollars so they dump them on the Europeans. The Europeans don't want them either, but their currencies are not fixed, so the value of the dollar falls.

Pulling out of Iraq is one option. No one has seemed interested in speculating what might be the consequence of that. It is supposed that Civil War would result, but it is hard to argue that there isn't already one, now. I can't see the majority Shiites giving up what they have gained, especially with Iran next door ready to give aid to them. What would the foreign fighters do if we pulled out? Would they stay and fight the Shiites or would they move on to Afghanistan or someo other place. My guess is that they would stay because they are mostly Sunnis.

If you have a BFT anchor, and a 10 inch tree seems to qualify, you are set. You'd like either two independent single slings or else a wrap-three-pull- two if you happen to have a triple sling. A locking biner and you are good to go. Some folks will add a second, non-locking biner, but it isn't necessary.

I believe that Dave Page Cobbler is the the go to guy for mountain boots in this State. You might be able to apply welt sealer yourself to make your boots waterproof again. If the leather is cracking after only 4 years it may be because you having been drying your boot properly. I always put my boots in front of a small fan and dry them at room temperature. The fan ensures that they dry in a few hours versus days it would take without the fan.

What struck me about the speech is that it was aimed soley at the American people as though no one in the rest of the world were listening to it. It was as though the Iraqis were not listening to it. If the war is ever going end we are going to have to get over this Us Versus the Terrorists mindset. Peace is only going to come through negotiation. The Iraqi Government is going to have to persuade the Sunnis that they have a place in society and the government and that joining will be more productive than fighting.
