I was at the Trestle area of Exit 38 last night and ran into Tom Hornbein who was climbing with Stim Bullit and his wife. We talked a bit about past climbs including the North Face of Johannesburg. These folks are a total class act. There must have been upwards of twenty people in the area and none of them recognized these two famous characters. I was totally honored and humbled to see these guys still out having fun on the rock.

I really don't think it matters. The normal force as a percentage of the downward force will always be the same, regardless of whether it is a shock load or a static load.

There is your downside, but it can be remedied through training and education. The nice thing about gyms is that if they get crowded, you can build another gym. The supply can always increase to meet demand. Not so with outdoor crags, unfortunately. It's unfortunate that man-made outdoor crags are so expensive to build.

Pub Club took place on the outside patio of the Ballroom. The waitress was pretty and kept us from running out of beer. The event was attended by klenke, dkemp, mattp, AlpineK, Gary_Yngve, Dave_Shuldt, Toast and myself. Others may have showed but I left at about 9:30 pm.

In this case, we put a double shoulder length 1" sling around the second block and then linked the slings (old plus new) on the first block with another shoulder length 6/16" runner, doubled. The base of the first block was rooted in such a way that it would have had to tip over (as opposed to slide) before it would go. Not sure I can make sense without a picture.

do you use a flat file to sharpen these? I didn't think I could sharpen them??? Yes, I use the same file I use on my steel crampons. I sharpened mine for the first time last night, and it took longer than I expected to do it right. I think the alloys they use these days are pretty damn hard!
