  1. Scooter Bug!
  2. Whether this is good news or not may depend on your point of view. As a moderate liberal, I saw her as perhaps the lesser of possible evils. The next nominee is almost certainly going to be an ideologue, more conservative and more to the liking of the far right.
  3. I'll take my odds with climbing. At least if I die climbing, chances are it will have been my own damn fault, or possibly my partner's fault. The thing I hate about riding bicycles on the street is time and again handing responsibility for my life to countless other people I don't even know.
  4. I feel your pain brutha, I hates that shit too. I read the ingredients on everything packaged that i buy, and it's so hard to avoid either HFCS or MSG that I wind up making things like vegetable stock from scratch. Try avoiding hydrogenated vegetable oil in any prepackaged food. Trans-fatty acids are all pervasive.
  5. Sure, if money is a problem, use the old shower curtain.
  6. Is more likely than the US Government telling rich people they won't insure their barrier island homes rebuilt on the sand.
  7. Interesting reading but it doesn't put any of my concerns to rest. It all depends on scientific disagreement with regard to how susceptible humans are to excitotoxins relative to rodents, something that my never be resolved.
  8. Anyone can go do an internet search of the two words "aspartame obesity" and come up with a large number of articles that purport that aspartame and related compounds, like monosodium glutamate, cause obesity because they are "excitotoxins", that is, they either kill brain cells or interfere with the appetite supression activity of serotonin in the brain. Now my impression is that that the doses people are getting are low enough that toxic levels are not being achieved. On the other hand, I decided long ago, not to take any risk and avoid these sorts of products to the extent that I can. I am curious as to what some of the voracious internet readers like Dru think about the whole issue.
  9. Nothing like a nice wax job to keep those floors looking smart.
  10. No carpet? Hardwood floors maybe?
  11. I thought K & K was a pretty good place. We had a fun little gathering with Toast, Gary_Yngve, Geek_the_Greek, Snugtop and Erik.
  12. Tom, I am surprised to hear statements like that from you, a son of the South, yourself.
  13. All depends on your definition of "somewhat close".
  14. I like to tell my partners, "I'd rather owe it to you my entire life than cheat you out of it!"
  15. He may be a crony but at least he actually once actually served on the Federal Reserve Board.
  16. Now that I am somewhat better read, I know where Pope's ethos comes from. It's a synthesis of Royal Robbins, Rheinhold Messner and Jean-Claude Droyer. His conception is a lot less nuanced than any of these men.
  17. Generally when it is raining in Seattle it is raining in Index. If it was dry on Sunday that would have gone against the odds.
  18. I'm thinking there must have been several of them.
  19. Well, too bad, they didn't bite. I thought it was a half-hearted attempt.
  20. And conservatives are conservationists? Or do they just like jam products? No, that would be a preservationist.
  21. I would submit that the exact opposite is true. Conservatives are driven by emotion and liberals by thought. Where do you think the word liberal comes from?
  22. Riverview Crags or Riverview Columns?
  23. The more I learn about Bill Robins the more I realize that he was a complex personality. There were so many dichotomies to his behavior.
  24. "30% narrower than any other three cam unit on the market". Aliens are narrower than tcu's.
  25. I agree, Pony Keg is a nice route.
