  1. Is that your own handwriting? It's beautiful.
  2. This came up about a year ago in another thread. So if this phenomenon is real, Western Europe should be experiencing colder weather right now. Are they? Or is it going to take time for local waters to cool?
  3. What a great way to stop those unwanted PM's!
  4. Cobra Commander climbs trad. DFA is a sporto.
  5. Of greater importance is where has RobBob been since February?

    Joining Rope

A Carrick Bend is as strong as a Double Fisherman, stronger than a Sheet Bend, yet is easier to untie after it has been loaded. If you use it, it is recommended to back it up with either siezings or half-fisherman knots. Here's some strength figures. Lord knows where they came from.
  7. Dryad has a set of the original Chouinard Hexentrics reslung with yellow Gemini kevlar cord. Maybe she'll sell?
  8. The trip to JTree is coming together. I've been approached by several different folks. Not everyone can stay for the same period of time, but what we should do is establish at cc.com camp at Hidden Valley and just converge on that point for partners, etc. I've heard so far from Knotzen, Roboboy, BCollins, JHamaker, Fenderfour and TCampbell.
  9. One wonders whether it might be possible to "condition" the descent route down CJ Couloir short of explosives. Perhaps one could send down a big snowball?
  10. Most people didn't care...hell, still don't care, who the nodder was.
  11. I am so disappointed! I thought, "wow, finally a thread about organic chemistry!".
  12. There is a Houston company called Tanox that has developed anti-IgE antibodies for treatment of asthma(Xolair, TNX-901) in collaboration with Novartis and Genentech. It turns out it also has application in peanut allergy which is also IgE mediated. There are clinical trials under weigh. Apparently, since Xolair is approved for one disease, doctors have the right to prescribe off-label for peanut allergy if they wish, even though the drug is not approved for that use. Good luck getting your doctor to do that.
  13. Having a peanut allergy is like having the Sword of Damocles hanging over your head for your entire life.
  14. We're going to come up there to steal your white treasure.
  15. Yes, easy to untie but without the advantage of being less prone to hanging up, like the EDK.
  16. Damn, I keep forgetting to buy chains for the car!
  17. You shouldn't have said all those bad things about Fido.
  18. The IRS- they've got you coming and going.

    Winterizing

I just put weatherstipping around the an access door to the attic space. I put foam behind all the cover plates on the outlets (on the exterior walls).
  20. It was a Char-Broil Promo H2O Smoker (465430105). The size is about 18 in. in diameter. Large enough for a small roasting pan. We cooked a 13 lb bird for 8 hours, using mesquite charcoal plus hickory wood chips. There are apparently two methods. One involves use of wood chunks soaked in water. The other uses wood chips, soaked in water and packaged in foil. I used the latter and don't like it because the packet gets in the way of inserting more briquettes and cuts of oxygen to the coals. Next time I use wood chunks.
  21. Smoked my own turkey for the first time. It's a lot of work with a charcoal-fired smoker, but the results were magnificent. The meat was moist, flavorful and tender.
  22. I hate the way work often interferes with my spray time.
  23. It goes without saying that one should use the triple fishermans when using Tech cord (5.5 mm Spectra or Technora core). EDK is fine for 6 mm or 7 mm perlon (Nylon) cord.
  24. Why use the knot in your cordellettes? What is the advantage over the double fisherman?
  25. No one retreads tires anymore except for truckers. It's not really worth the cost.
