  1. last year I tried out a MH Conduit bivvy sac and experienced the same condensation prob you have. In fact, I was drenched the two times I used it. I returned the piece of shit to REI and exchanged it for an OR Basic Bivvy. Despite the sales guy's claims they're all the same, I didn't run into this problem with the plain vanilla GoreTex that OR uses, and I've been quite happy with it. As far as warmth, I do think it moves you a notch up in insulation. I'll need to test this out with my light down bag this weekend in winter conditions. It did jus fine in spring snow. As far as sleeping systems, I was always cold with a thermarest on snow until I started adding a closed cell foam pad to supplement it. Can anybody comment on the merits of two closed cell foam pads vs. one and a Thermarest? I'd just like to lighten things up a bit.
  2. Arwen is SO HOT!!

Dubya's actions read like a bad play. There's no suspense, we already know what's gonna happen, and I have no empathy for our protagonist of this story. It's all just a cheap sham in the name of freedom.
  4. Hey mattp, I think I just found that in-city boulder I been lookin' fer. Yeehaw!
  5. Actually, Penn went to Baghdad. I think you, like Dubya, are gettin' Iraq mixed up with Afganistan
  6. I would expect just such crap from someone who resides in a town that smells like... um, Tacoma
  7. Aaaww, now Greg_W, I didn't say our nation's best actor... just one of our better ones. Take his role in Dead Man Walkin or the Falcon and the Snowman. Few can play the pittiful schmuck as well. Okay, maybe Buscemi takes that prize, but Penn's a damn decent director as well (see The Pledge - it's worth renting.)
  8. I missed out on Schultzy last time, so I'll vote for that this time.
  9. Penn made a trip to Baghdad this weekend to "listen and not to teach." Some would accuse Penn of being a rabble rousing stooge, but I'll stop and to one of our better actors who has taken it upon himself to open eyes to the fact that we are belligerent fucks about to launch a war on a country who's people don't really hate us and who actually need our help. He was fair in his comments back to the locals. It's up to them to change their leadership. It's up to us to change ours.
  10. Tasty
  11. Ya know, REI and the Mounties catch a lot of shit on this board, but it's REI that's matching donations dollar for dollar, and the Everett Mountaineers that stepped up to the plate and cut a $20,000 check. Now that deserves a
  12. Yo bolt clipper, Who the fuck are you, dude? Get a life
  13. Hattie's it is... IBL8
  14. The nickerson gets my vote cuz they have clean taps... besides, it's bigger.
  15. Got a rough idea of the elevation where you turn off? I figure it'll be 50/50 visibility. Makes sense, though, to turn off to catch the ridge. BTW, how's the avy exposure?
  16. Okay here's one, bentonite clay. I get the stuff from PCC or an herb store, and it's a well known naturopathic aid for the following.... It's great stuff for scrapes as it forms an almost instant scab. It's good for stings and bites as it leaches out the toxins. It's good for the trots... just add to water and it'll plug you up long enough to get back to the car. A film canister worth seems to be overkill. It's light and multipurpose shit.
  17. There are two very good articles in Couloir Magazine that discuss avy beacons, the digital vs analogue debate and preview of models on the market. Take a look... http://www.couloirmag.com/Gear/gear_index.htm
  18. Yeah, yeah... part of the reason I threw this thread out there was in preparation to send my shoes out to the cobbler. I'm just a little self conscious and embarrassed to hand over a pair of shoes that give away how bad my toes can smell (eew.) Fun climbing with you out at Index, though.
  19. Word is the price tag is $600K . A bit much for a shack off the beaten path.
  20. Prior Snowboards is demoing boards up at Blackcomb December 13th and 14th. I can't make it up there that weekend, but maybe one of you can... and can feed a review back to this thread. See http://www.priorsnowboards.com/winter_schedule.html for details Prior makes a 172 swallow tail split and a more conventional backcountry split board in various lengths that range from 154 up to 176 cm. Each comes with the Voile hardware and Tractor Skins. The biggest question I have is how does the Prior stack up to the Voile Split Decision board of the same length? Trying to compare either of these two to the Burton is an apples and oranges comparison.
  21. Actually, I think its an AC Cobra... er, at least wants to be.
  22. Hey bro, no snow... See the local weather report. We're bummin' too, so there's only one thing to do
  23. I just picked up Bruce Tremper's new book, Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain. It's the best I've seen and would be a good accompaniment to any class.
  24. Okay, hold the giggles and save the spray please, serious question here... I made the mistake of wearing my rock shoes without socks this season. Do you have any tips on how to get the skanky smell out? More importanly, do you have any cautions regarding the thoughts below? I've considered scrubbing the insides out with a mixture of salt and baking powder, letting it dry and risning with water. I also gave some thought to a soak in white vinegar and a rinse in water. The latter actually did wonders for getting rid of the stink from my polypro liner socks, but I'm not sure what it'd do to the sole adhesives. Thanks in advance
