  1. That's what seamseal is for...use it before you take them out the first time.
  2. goatboy spells it out good...kearney.
  3. You mean straight from Challenger to Luna lake? Well, yes, there is a route that goes that way, but it wouldn't be at all related to the ridge traverse we did, which we did on purpose. We weren't just lost on our way to Luna.
  4. As a person who is completely inept and making any web page except for some basic text, I am even more impressed!
  5. so I do have to ask...what is a "slush cup" party?

    zip drives?

bronco, do you have a CD or DVD burner? the things have become such a commodity they are the cheapest way to back stuff up. I guess it's my only choice...my pics require ~ 5 DVDs to back up!
  7. Very cool! Proof that a mountain doesn't have to be the tallest or the badassest to be just plain fun and cool. I agree, that looks like a natural ski line. It would actually make it much easier. Unless conditions were straight up awful, skiing down that would be much easier than face in downclimbing.
  8. It's the first big lake you enounter as I remember. it's surrounded (on the side you approach) with some quite slabby rock. Right where you walk up are slabs that drop off 15 feet into the lake and continue steeply underwater. Get a running start on said slabs and let fly!! Just remember to close the legs or cup the nutz!
  9. Climb: Alta Mountain-Supar #1 Technical Walkup Route Date of Climb: 7/29/2004 Trip Report: My dad and I hiked up Alta Mountain yesterday. This certainily isn't worthy of a TR but figured it's sometimes fun to post about the simple stuff done with a family member, newbie friend, etc. I've gotta say it's a very worthwhile scramble, at least on a weekday. Summit was reached in a bit over 2 hours -- my ol' man is 50 and can more than keep up with me. On the way down we took a detour over to Rampart Lakes. Beautiful!! There is a great rock you can run and jump probably 20 feet down into the lake. The water is very deep there. I love Alpine diving boards. I found the walk up Rampart Ridge super enjoyable. Beautiful, open, and flowered. Can't breat that 1 hour from Seattle.
  10. He didn't have that long post initially. Just something about "I think he is saying home ownership"
  11. Impassable is somebody's word for "I couldn't do it" You'd probably have to navigate around crevasses more, but I'm sure you could do it just fine.
  12. WOw, could it be possible that I was being fecitious(sp?)?? It sounds stupid no matter what he means. And yes, down below it states he means home ownership. Don't you get it...banning gay marriage and supporting religious schools is the key to home ownership!!
  13. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/07/30/bush.issues/index.html "The first two weeks will focus on "strengthening families and the changing economy," with a special emphasis on promoting what the president calls the "ownership society."" I can take two things out of this: 1.)Bush is pushing for state ownership. 2.)Bush is pushing or more corporate and wealthy citizen control of the rest of us.

    July Surprise

Do terrorist meeting rooms becoming confused shouting matches considering that every one of these fuckers is named Ahmed or Mohammed?

    N/S, N/R ???

Interesting that somebody seeking no republicans describes the house as "grand old..." For those of us not getting it...grand old party = GOP = republican party.
  16. Damnit, somebody stole limecat from me!!!
  17. I imagine that snow creek "glacier" would be pretty soft in the afternoon and thus safe without axe or spikes...the runout isn't bad. Coming off dragontail in October, however, the thing was hard firn with plenty of rocks imbedded. I was glad to have carried crampons (but no axe) up serpintine. If I was going this time of year and expecting sun I dont think I'd take either, personally.
  18. every time I've heard of somebody doing this traverse they do this "steep snow traverse" Is there some particuliar reason people avoid the ridge crest and detour on the snow? Is it just that this is the "established" way or are there actually technical reasons that prevent easily staying on the crest? Doing the travers without the venture onto the stupid snow would be very nice, IMHO, but I have no idea what it actually looks like up there... thanks, -josh
  19. Alex, I am surprised they didn't care about the motherfuckers in there. They were cool with anything I take it? I've seen other guidebooks "censored" and thought it was stupid but just the way it was... ?
  20. 400 feet of turns!?? SWEET!
  21. Yes, cause there is *obviously* no reward for bivying on a high exposed ridge looking across the pickets and other fantastic stuff where you can watch the sunrise and sunset. Clearly it's perfectly reasonable to do in a day, but there are good reasons to take your time to. Who says an overnight requires a big pack. standard pack+light sleeping bag+light pad. Weighs what, 2.5, 3lbs more? With that said, partner and I will be doing this tomorrow car-to-car since we only have one day available.
  22. I've heard it's supposed to erupt soon. scary!

  24. I guess that would explain it...we used 1lb sleeping bags and a 10oz tarp for shelter. We did it on skis, so no problem with bugs. I think we were quite light due to these sacrifices...one of them almost caught us...we had to deal with rain for nearly a day and a half under that tarp. not pleasent.
  25. Shady monica dealings or Shady Enron dealings...hmm, which is worse? FW, I would agree that Clinton would most likely wipe up in this election if he could run again. It's become more and more obvious that both candidates are trying to win by proving how much more the other guy sucks. And, yes, even more than in past elections
