  1. When I was at CU boulder it was well known that 5-years was the normal graduation, not 4. I knew people that had been going there even longer. You are not in a rush to leave college when you live in Boulder. As for Durango, etc. and the other Colorado towns, just understand that in terms of size they are all vastly smaller than Boulder, which is also very near denver. If large (for the mdiwest at least) city access is important, along with a much larger selection of hang-outs, than Boulder is the place to be. It all depends on what you are looking for. Out of state tuition is definitely over the top expensive, but living for a year in CO to get residency, as mentioned, isn't too hard and it saves assloads of money. Overall I would say if you can't have lots of fun in Boulder you are either a.) dead or b.) on your death bed. -josh
  2. Hey Trog, how do you think the skiing would be up there the next couple of days?
  3. Boulder was a great place to live. I won't even join the bandwagon and bash it's culture. It has hot college girls, nothing more you can ask for. Yeah, there is money there, but that certainly has it's plusses and by and large the people are great. For rock climbing access it's unreal. The weather was awesome. The only letdown were the Colorado rockies have nothing alpine. The "big mountains" are largely choss and sadly enough i did 30 or so 14ers after I finally just forced myself to think of it as going for a hike. And for skiing, PNW any day. Colorado skiing is as overhyped as it is overpriced. If you love groomers, on the other hand, it's heaven for that. I will throw in another nominee - Missoula, MT.
  4. I can testify that after completing a pickets traverse and living in Colorado for a few years that the Rockies are a range for huge giant pussies. Just kidding , but that amazing stat doesn't surprise me. The Cascades and Olympics are unique, and we are lucky to have them! "Holy fucking shit! Those are like real mountains." - my friend in Colorado when I showed him a picture of j-berg and then a summit shot from Eldorado.
  5. Thank you, and good to be back. Time to get outside soon!

  7. New discussion - does ascending fixed window washing lines on the side of a tall skyscraper qualify as a first ascent of that building? Hmmmm...so much thinking...brain...exploding...
  8. Ahh, awesome pictures. That looks incredible. I was thinking Eldorado and Baker, so looks like those are still in the running. I hope this system brings as much snow as it possibly can.
  9. DONE and done! Now, who has skiing ideas besides this useless thread-jacking russian?
  10. Of course. Let me find the picture.
  11. The weather report looks like the next week might bring a significant amount of snow to the Cascades, in particular the higher elevations. Who has ideas for good locations for some higher (4500+) touring that will still be accessible by road due to the early date in the season. I'm looking for some new areas to poke round in for the next 2 to 3 weeks. thanks! -josh
  12. I dropped a crampon in the Price Glacier a few years ago and had to do that exact same one poon hop all the way back to camp. I remember getting a great workout for my left calf.
  13. Phew...case closed. Now I can go back to liking Rove again. After all, it was just this one thing that had changed my mind about him.
  14. My guess is there is no way that feature was previously unclimbed...
  15. Ack...that "steep snow" looks sketch. I would be tucking my tail and heading for the rock...
  16. Just ordered $153 of garbage books for a total donation of $0.00. In 7-10 days I'll be having a nice campfire courtesy of those assholes. :-) BTW, they dont verify phone or email for orders that don't charge anything, so I would recommend not giving them a real account for either. Good find Dave!
  17. By being longer and cooler...
  18. Did you use a rope at all? Would trail tennies suffice? That is a really nice area - and I agree about the glaciers - very sad. The White Chuck is pretty much depressing to look at.
  19. WTF is wrong with those pictures?

I always thought it would be funny to throw some cesium in the local swimming pool...
  21. You seem to have an obsession with climbing under icefalls on j-berg, eh? You have pictures of the fresh snow?
  22. Very very very cool. Those are great pictures - looks like an amazing place!
  23. Advisable for solo right now?
  24. If you are looking to get to regular summer trailheads during the winter than no 4 wheel vehicle is going to help with that - truck or car. The mountains just get far too much snow for that to practical. If you are intersted in a vehicle that is good all around in rain, snow, etc. I would definently recommend an Audi at the upper price point and the for a bit cheaper - the other recommendations like the subbie or tac-truck are good suggestions. -josh
