Yes, that entire area around Lyman, bonanza, railroad creek, etc. is gorgeous. Every time I view that south side of north star mountain it looks like it would be an awesome spring ski. Maybe I'll just have to go and find out myself.

Even the british finally abandoned this jackass system for the most part. It's time we realize how fucking stupid it is. I again point to the hicks, rednecks and general over the top "pro-USA" folks who would see this as doing away with american heritage and knuckling under to those damn euros. I sometimes wonder if this country would have been better off with the southern half being it's own entity.
-
No, sorry, I should have been more clear. I actually just checked and it's "North Star Mountain" under the official name. It sits due north of the Lyman lakes near the Bonanza peak area.

Yeah, that's an interesting one, since the aviation system runs on feet, not meters worldwide. This is, perhaps, one thing that is better off left alone. It's hard enough that english is also the official aviation language, so you sometimes hit that barrier. It would be even worse to have people getting elevations messed up.

I wish so bad we would switch to metric. Do you honestly think a country that run by George W would be "un-patriotic" enough to switch from the good ol' retarted english system to metric, tho? Not a chance. Also remember the entire southern half of this country would be thrown into disarray just at the mere thought of having to learn to convert.

More importantly, check this out! On March 17th, rangers in the park’s West Subdistrict were called to assist Montana Highway Patrol and Madison County SO officers in the pursuit and capture of a drunk driver who was heading down Highway 287 at about 100 miles per hour, brandishing a shotgun out the truck’s window. He was heading toward Highway 191 and a junction that would take him either through part of the park or the town of West Yellowstone. Rangers helped West Yellowstone officers divert traffic at several locations and place spike strips on the highway. The man drove past rangers and officers with the shotgun barrel still pointed out the driver’s side window. He drove over the spike strip, which deflated his front tires, then stopped a little further down the road. Officers attempted to surround him, but he resumed driving. At that point, Montana Highway Patrol officers fired into the truck’s rear tires in an attempt to disable it. The driver continued for another half mile, lost control of his truck, and went off the road. A standoff ensued in which the driver continued to point his shotgun out the window. He refused to comply with commands, so a SWAT/tactical team was summoned from Bozeman, about 80 miles to the north. A park special agent trained as a crisis negotiator was also called in, but deputies and rangers were eventually able to subdue the driver. He lost his shotgun in the process and was taken into custody without further incident. He faces numerous state felony charges. [brian Smith, Supervisory Special Agent, YELL] Sounds like the mowich lake area!

8 feet of snow in a week is just a bit different than 7 feet in 24 hours. Funny, I remember more than a few times (read: a few times every winter) when MRNP and ONP get 8 or more feet in a week.

I'd like to start a petition to get tacoma renamed back to it's original name...commencement city!

I hope you are being fecitious (sp?) cause I could find you about a hundred spots with just as good possibilities for ski descents.

Dude, you SPENT money. You didn't profit. They did. You maximized your spending power. LOL, this reminds me of a time when a friend mentioned to me and another friend that this place he was looking to rent was a "goldmine." We laughed our asses off and then questioned him as to how paying anybody else to rent something could be considered a "goldmine."

UGH...that made me crinnge just thinking about it...

You know you've had a good day at Vantage...
JoshK replied to catbirdseat's topic in Climber's Board
Wow, sounds like somebody thought this would be a funny joke. Considering nobody was hurt, I guess they were right. -
Oh, but more important...sorry to hear about the knee. Anything strange feeling in the knees or shoulders is always scary. Take it easy on it and let it heal up.
-
Sounds like there is a lesson to be learned here...when in doubt, land on the stupid boarder in the landing zone, hoping he'll break some of the fall. Said another way: Cracking the boarder on the head with a ski is better than hurting your knee.

I think we are at code "Homeland security dept is a joke" right now...

I drove up to BC this weekend, and judging by the snow on the trees, the baker area (mount vernon through border along I-5) seemed to get the most snow and the lowest down. THe level was much higher around everett (looking towards tevens pass) and also much higher up in BC it appeared. Around bellinngham, it looks like it got down around 1500 or 2000 feet though.

I was in BC this weekend and went in CMS for the first time. I was pretty disappointed. No good deals at all, except for a few pieces of women's clothing. I was really disappointed to see that arc'teryx adjusts their pricing for the home (canadian) market on their clothing, unlike on their packs. The packs are a great deal up there, cause I can get one for $200CDN, which would cost $200US. Basically a instant 35% off. Their clothing, however, has been ass-rape adjusted, so a nice shell is like $600CDN or some such crap. On the other hand, the lightweight powershield jacket I got at MEC for $155CDN is a great deal. An equivilent arc'teryx piece would be $250US or so.

Went to vancouver, BC w/ girlfriend. No climbing, but at least got some good deals at MEC.

I read the first 3 posts in this thread, and ignored the read. Quite quoting statistics from surveys tho. this is the most idiotic way to attempt to make a point when you have no leg to stand on. Here is a stat for you: 95% of the people in this country are idiots.

I have some clog cams as well. I've never taken a leader fall on them, but I trust them, for what that is worth.
-
Hmm, I dunno, only cam I've ever taken a leader fall on was a camalot. I'm still here...

Agreed, this is why I think the bit of extra weight for free standing tents is worth it for alpine situations.
