the problem is that triggering a slab 100's feet away is a very rare occurence (apparently not this year in eastern BC). i am not sure how realistic it is to expect eliminating this kind of hazard on most tours worth skiing. perhaps canceling all trips to regions where such hazard is said to exist?

good point - my bad for skipping a critical sentence.

yes, quite sobering to think they did everything right. is this another case when avalungs or such may have made a difference?
-
really? tell me about it. while you are at it, also tell me what I should make of the 4 minutes it took you to respond to mine?
-
we? you mean, you and the rest of royalty because I don't think anyone but you is making this claim.
-
but why did they do that? or would want to do it again? however, trying to get the guy to loose his job in addition to the fine, ban, etc ... seems a little excessive

I knew you would (wait a minute ...)

I recall that Mug Stump was banned from returning with the program after he published his FAs in the Vinson massif (worked for his brother back then)

hey, what can I say? it does not take much to appear smarter than someone uttering poop-boob-scat-jizz all day long for month on end.

it's more like you reply to my posts because what I say bugs you. so you see, I don't need a mission to bother you, just being myself is enough
-
if I am not mistaken you seem to be the one currently whining. but this is besides the point, there is no need for you to post anymore, you said all that you had to say a long time ago.

it should be noted as well that climbing is illegal within the USAP (unless you have a good reason and recreation is not a good reason)

not so fast. as noted earlier we can use past events to guide us today. so, is our failure to protect the cultural legacy of iraq (billions of dollars worth of artifacts) any indication of the way we will conduct business 'with the best interest of the iraqi people in mind'? if you think that much will be recovered before it can be seen (or not seen as is often the case) in private collections across the world, you are dreaming.

JGowans - obvioulsy some people in this country have little use for history, which as you point out leaves them unable to learn from their mistakes. trask - your comments are always more a statement about you than the discussion itself or the people involved in it.

yeah right, in 30 years from now the oil reserves will be gone and so will be their cultural heritage
-
I hear the oil ministry is intact and the oil wells secured .... go figure

I did the traverse only once. It took me ~11hours but it was a little later in the year (early May?). I booted up Aasgard, used a light ski for the traverse and climbed Prussik on the way.

is this supposed to absolve us of our responsibilities? in any case, it's about time you drew the lessons of such a profound statement.

apparently others do not share your opinions: "Antiquities experts, dismayed that U.S. officials failed to heed their warnings to protect Baghdad's historic artifacts during the war, said on Monday they were concerned the priceless treasures looted from Iraq's main museum may never be recovered. U.S. archeological organizations and the U.N.'s cultural agency UNESCO said they had provided U.S. officials with information about Iraq's cultural heritage and archeological sites months before the war began. University of Chicago professor McGuire Gibson was among a group that met Pentagon officials several times and presented them with a list of archeological and other sites that should be protected, particularly the Iraqi National Museum in Baghdad. "We warned them about looting at the very beginning," said the archeologist who has worked extensively in the region. "I was assured it would be secured." Now, he said, the loss was immeasurable. "The Baghdad museum is the equivalent of the Cairo Museum. It would be like having American soldiers 200 feet outside the Cairo museum watching people carry away treasures from King Tut's tomb or carting away mummies," said Gibson." http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=4WBKUFEHD4LL2CRBAEOCFFA?type=focusIraqNews&storyID=2563696

what an absurd claim since the objective is not to be a simple client state. we all know that de-facto privatization of the iraqi oil industry is about to take place. having the second largest reserves in the hands of western industry is bound to affect the ability of opec to control production levels and prices. moreover, these are limited resources that will be gone before too many decades have passed.

sorry but your are off topic for this thread. if you'd like to talk about polls you should open a different thread, but i should warn you that if you want a response from me you should take it easy on the unsubstantiated inflamatory remarks. this holds for all aspects of your rant, i.e. not strictly the poll today business.
