  1. Depends on the climb, but change option four to: "Skin up with mountain boots, have fun climbing in them, and RIP STRAIGHT ELEVENS ALL THE WAY DOWN LOL ...and I will check it.
  2. congrats HB, you didn't kill a topic for once.
  3. Of course, I was not suggesting there is no value in these discussions. However I could see, for example, someone posting the blanket statement "there is no avalanche danger on mt st helens" w/o really thinking about it. I didn't mean to appear overly negative - you can learn a lot on cc.com. I know I have.
  4. Going ice climbing at a place/time where there is guaranteed to be a ton of people? Sweet!
  5. smells like a bad case of klenkism
  6. blakej asked: And now for a suspect response The quality of shear in your hasty pit analysis will help guide you to your decisions on whether a given interface will slide. It is only one data point among many, and pit work really should only confirm what you already suspect about a snowpack. However, quality of shear on compression or shovel tests will go a ways towards determining the stability of an interface you have questions about.
  7. Perhaps I could have worded that better, I apologise... I would take a skeptical approach to comments on cc.com, particularly those involving your life safety. You can't be sure of who you are talking with, what their background is, and even what the intention of their post was. Likewise, the poster can't possibly predict the variables that will be presented to you on a given day when you have to make those life-dependent decisions, even if the poster is an acknowledged expert in the field. It's been said a million times, but nothing can replace hands-on training under the supervision of experienced teachers. I would consider any advice here supplementary at best, highly suspect at worst. But you probably already know that. As Twain wrote: Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.
  8. wow, this thread got edited heavily! I still think my (deleted) advice stands. Apparently someone does not think so.
  9. HB, whatever will you name this climb
  10. forecast was clear with a chance of choppers
  11. Kudos to JosephH for turning this into a constructive thread rather than the usual PRG bitch session.
  12. It's in Alan Kearney's book.
  13. No surprise drugs are required for you to get some action.
  14. Thankfully, I don't know what you're talking about.
  15. Invasion of Iran w/following reason supplied to the UN: Why not?
  16. You may even run into the dreaded Rear Admiral
  17. Haliburton Holiday Chex Mix, with little pieces shaped like oil derricks and small middle east countries.
  18. Any playing dru talks about involved 20-sided dice, warlocks and orcs and stuff.

    is that scott harpell?
  20. Not sure what those stores are, but your cynicism was sufficiently detectable there.
  21. Just stating observations. Didn't say it was a good idea, or that it represented EVERYONE's view here. Believe me, the anger is there in Portland. I didn't say anything abou the non-metro areas. And every non-metro area in Oregon you claim in the other thread? Not sure what you consider metro, but there's plenty of polarization to be found in rural counties.

I agree, this is what hurts the most. I was holding out hope that most folks would be thinking "wow, this guy's way over the line, not at all the person I voted for in 2000". It's shocking to believe that the majority of people actually approve of what's going on. It's almost as if some people I know are shackled into voting for him, no matter what he does, as it would represent a moral inconsistency to change their minds. I could certainly see myself struggling with that self analysis, as it might suggest a weakness in my convictions.

I think it's inaccurate to say Bush wanted to go to war. I doubt Bush knew whether he wanted to go to war or not. Check out Rumsfeld's War on Frontline. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/pentagon/ The complete disregard of advice from 4-star generals is particularly disturbing.
  24. At the current rate of polarization in this country, the secession of the northwest coast is not out of the realm of possibility. Just look at the security required for Bush to visit Portland. I bet it rivals middle east visits. The anger is palpable just walking down the street in this city.
