  1. The stiffness is nice when you want to reach high and slot a hex like a nut (mainly the smaller ones). The stiffness also makes it more likely to be disturbed by rope drag. I have used it and it works fine, but I don't have much experience using other stuff (the cord is expensive).
  2. I've found the tech cord to be very stiff. Sometimes this is good, sometimes, not so convenient.
  3. how 'bout drinking glacier meltwater full of glacial till? the rock must not be so good for your stomach lining.

  5. If you wind up in a situation were you have to use one, I've found that putting a finger between the lines on my brake hand as I rappel keeps out the twists effectively. I also make sure to rappel the 8's first, and have someone with an ATC or similar rappel to ensure the lines are straight before trying to pull the rope. Helps to run the ATC the full length of the rope.
  6. Were they freezing in your pack? Maybe keep them closer to the spine. A strong drink mix might lower the freezing point just a bit? Can't say I've had too much of a problem on winter climbs, unless I set the bottle on the snow or something. The home-made jacket sounds like a good idea.
  7. The intense sediment load of the Yangtze will mean some major problems keeping the dam from filling with deposits. It will be one mile across and almost 600 feet high. It is forcing the displacement of about 2 million people.
  8. The is increased seismic activity beneath Lake Mead as well, due to the weight of the water.

Then I would be looking at true downhill skis and some fritschis. Bandits seem to work well for people. I like my Tuas for the weight and snap but they get bossed around on stuff that an alpine ski can cruise.

  18. Unsoeld seems to have been a first class guy, too bad he left before I could appreciate him. And a local Oregon hardman to boot! A founding member of what became the Corvallis Mountain Rescue Unit. Probably some of the more seasoned guys on this board knew him I would guess.
  19. Yeah, hell of a line they chose though. What a spectacular route, especially going in there pretty much cold as well. A true adventure.

    What a weekend!

I will try to fend off the admiring rabble to improve my odds. It would only be responsible to alert the Nat'l Guard of your arrival.
  22. in retrospect I see you were referring to annoying dogs at crags topic, rather than The Adventures of Trask and his slobbering Wonderhound topic
