  9. It was a little ways down from the summit rim about 100 meters to the west of the pearly gates.
  10. That guy was classic with that full rimed up beard. Must have weighed 6 pounds.
  11. Good question. I was surprised to see all 5 were in good shape and wondered why they hadn't set out to get down somehow. Apparently they were told when they called in to stay in the cave until someone reached them. One of them said they didn't know where they were and needed help finding the pearly gates. Gives you an idea of how bad the weather was up there. The gates and chute were totally different from a week ago, and maybe even yesterday from when you climbed down it. Certainly the strangest southside climb I've done.
  12. They had an MLU which we used to track them. They also had a GPS and were dressed for the weather.
  13. They were a group of five climbing Leuthold Couloir with oncoming bad weather. The wound up traversing the summit rim in the dark and a total whiteout, digging a snow cave on the summit. We found them in their cave this morning and helped them down the South side in some truly horrible weather. The south side route is really funky right now. The hogsback has shifted very far east from the past few years, and there was terrible windslab.
  14. What? Willamette Pass is a ski resort. That is where this telemark festival is. What of it?
  15. better? I'm surprised you didn't puke on the raspberry stuff then
  16. I've mixed it w/ chocolate syrup before. had to plug my nose while eating it but it worked well.

Wha? If you're referring to the funky 70's-esque animation at the start with the awful music, then yes.

  20. trask registered on 12/31/69. He's had the time to crank 'em out. Posting on an ENIAC and stuff when it wasn't tabulating votes for the Kennedy elections
  21. chrisT looks like there's a bit of seismic activity up there, the south side's looking a little tilted. Nth face just turned into an extreme route!!

isn't that the disney logo in the corner?
  23. Often I do not carry a GPS when climbing due to the significant weight penalty. However if it is a lower angle snow thing and the weather is touch and go I consider it. I use an older model, the Garmin 12xl. It has a superior built-in antenna to the newer eTrex things. I had a session with the Garmin rep about this and he said to make the eTrex light and small enough, a significant amount of shielding had to be removed. The 12xl is fairly heavy, but has been a proven workhorse over the years and isn't dumbed-down with silly graphics. There's something nice about leaving it behind and having confidence with map and compass too.
