  1. You can re-eat your feces on an all-gu diet and get another dose of energy. It even tastes better, though it is still very sticky.

  3. That sounds like a good idea. I normally ski a 184 or so, and I have some approach skis with silvrettas at 167. This works quite well, esp. when skiing with climbing boots. I've enjoyed the Atomic TG:10 Superlight, mainly because it is often on sale for about $99 later in the season. Unfortunately you will have to play the Atomic naming two-step to figure out what ski it is this year.
  4. I'm sure women love to be chased through an urban park in the evening by some desperate dude.

  7. You might try on a pair of nepal extremes if sportivas fit you. They are like bedroom slippers compared to the Invernos, and they are fairly warm. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive.
  8. I like plastics for long, straightforward things, like going up 40-50° snow/ice all day. Plastics are a very nice, comfortable platform for this, and yes, they are warm. They are easier on your calves, and easier on your toes when you are kicking all day. They also ski better if that is a factor in the equation. I have found the Scarpa Inverno to do all these things quite well, and it has seen action around the globe for years now. I have hiked in long distances in them, and to be honest, I think they might hike better than the la sportiva leathers I have. I'm sure someone would be willing to sell you some, as plastic boots are not the trendy thing right now.
  9. what if you attach a handle to the hook, and hang on to that?
  10. And here. And here. And here.
  11. ~41 miles, with about 10k' of climbing.
  12. You have been scooped. I'm not sure what exact time of year these were taken, but I think 1985 was one of the snowiest autumns on record. It's in the top 5 for sure.
  13. oh no shit? thanks.
  14. I have done this as a run a few times. It is called the "Timberline Trail" (#600, I believe). 2 days would make it pretty fun, with a camp on the north side somewhere down in the meadows. It is a beautiful trip, and if you have not been in the area that much, worth it to take your time over a few days. Many people do this hike over 3 or 4 days. The trail is usually snow-free by mid summer, though if the split in the jetstream is maintained through the rest of the season, it should open much earlier. The tricky parts are the river crossings. A girl died last year trying to do this in a rain storm.
  15. PETA is way out of control sometimes, but I don't think anyone can look at a Nebraska feedlot and say there's not something wrong with that.
  16. cruel and unusual MisterE, cruel and unusual.
  17. Those are good questions fairweather. I believe native salmon runs are one of orcas' primary food sources. Engage firestorm. They also feed somewhat on bottom-dwelling species, which are also considered overfished, so perhaps some tighter regulations on comm/rec fishing. As top-level predators, they are considered more susceptible to pollutants concentrated in prey moving up the food chain, so maybe some action on this front. There are other factors like underwater noise from boats, along with the exhaust they leave on the surface. In short, it could be a ton of stuff. Aside from the panda bear, orcas are perhaps the most charismatic of charismatic megafauna when it comes to environmental rallying cries.

  20. The ankle warmer thing is a good idea, and not just for sitting at a belay. Ballet dancers have been doing this for years with leg warmers to combat the lack of coordination at the feet, associated with mild cooling of the body. One of the first signs of hypothermia is stumbling, and this lack of circulation to the lower legs is the reason why. You will actually be more coordinated with your footwork if you warm your lower legs in the cold weather. Leg warmers: not just an 80's fashion accessory.
  21. Yes, I remember Bend as a sleepy little community as a little kid. I see the same thing happening to Sisters. If you go off the main strip, there has been some startling development in the direction of the farm fields towards the three sisters. I always liked that view of the farms with the sisters as a backdrop. Enjoy it while it's still there.
  22. after the nuclear holocaust, all that will remain will be the cockroaches, printer cartridges, off-brand viagra, and nigerian atm statements.
  23. hold on, I haven't installed the turnstiles yet. on a positive note, it looks to be in way better condition than the last time you attempted it TG
  24. kinky. Yep I am bummed about the skiing but it is a good chance to work on the rock stuff. Frustrating how skiing seems to come so natural and subconsciously, but I have to work so hard to see progress on rock. Probably need to just mentally ease back and let it flow a bit more, as with anything.
