  1. nah, sounds like the ski brakes. They match up to two holes on the rails. They lift up when your foot is in the binding, and when you wipe out and your feet release, they pop down to stop the ski from cruising down the slope...sometimes...
  2. yes in rescue applications it's all about the english system. Kind of dumb talking about a 300ft rope supporting 2kN loads, but everyone knows exactly how big a 300ft rope is, and how many you need to do a particular highline or lower down mt jefferson, etc and you can think of it in football fields English system should be banned.
  3. bah, a rumor. you only break dynafits by trying to kick-turn in them that or when you chuck them because they fill with ice just kidding, I want a pair
  4. by the way, is there a cougar just outside the shot? looks like he's a little afraid of the runout there haha
  5. jumping in dynafits how DARE you
  6. A quality alpine ski. For touring, something light. For ripping, something heavier. I have found the Atomic R:ex fits most of what I do. It is light for an alpine ski but heavy for a traditional touring ski. It has a foam core so it will break down over time. Just depends on what you want to do with it. All skis are the same these days. At least that's the way it seems to me.
  7. I remember coming back from se utah backcountry after 10 days and using a squeeze bottle shoved up my nose, firing in mild salt water until it rocketed out the other side. Unbelievable how much crud you got up there just hanging out, took minutes for it to turn clear mmmmm.

    WiFi question

Charge ridiculous amounts for coffee, that's how. Just kidding, you can limit access to specific users a number of ways. Usernames and passwords work, or you can even limit access based on the number hardcoded into the network device, like a vin number on a car.

    cold feet

yeah I was just thinking s/he might be one of the many folks who have Raynaud's phenomenon, which apparently affects a lot out there who have no idea it even exists. Here is some info: http://my.webmd.com/content/healthwise/221/73956

    WiFi question

check your tcp/ip settings. most likely they need to be set to "dhcp" to aquire an ip address and router address. Make sure the device selected is "airport" in the network settings panel.

  18. people don't use flukes because they flat-out suck to carry around and cut up your stuff after being pounded on. They are a pain in the ass to release. I hate those things. Even worse than pickets and pickets are bad to begin with.
  19. Here's a link to one of Seattle MR's newsletters talking a bit about it, for what it's worth: SMR newsletter Looks like it was actually the metal on the picket that broke. Shows how good my memory is Anyway, pretty strong.
  20. maybe it was the carabiner, I don't remember, needless to say, they can be strong or totally crap imaginary as you prob. well know. Those pickets in the test were built for rescue anchors, so naturally some time was spent getting good placements. I think it was two in series vertically that held best. Also a bollard was pretty much unbreakable in the test if I remember right.

do you get cold hands too?
  22. pull tests have been done up on rainier with rope failure before picket failure... they can be a pain in the rear though. I still seem to carry and place them though.

    aac - alpine news

Hey I saw the leavenworth rope-up review by beck in the AAC club newsletter, with photo of some of the posters on this site, but no mention of cc.com at all. Was this actually a cascade section event or something? I was not there but it seemed like it was more a cc.com deal anyways, nice to see it in there I guess.
